    Abstract: A covering for an architectural opening in the form of a Venetian blind includes a plurality of supporting ladders for horizontally disposed but vertically spaced slats with the ladders including vertically extending spaced guide cords and interconnecting rungs at vertically spaced locations along the guide cords. The rungs support associated slats in a horizontal orientation and the slats are connected to the rungs so that when the guide cords are shifted vertically relative to each other causing the rungs to tilt, the slats are positively moved between a horizontal disposition and a substantially vertical disposition in which a light blocking seal between the slats is established.

    Abstract: An apparatus for fabricating a unique nonwoven fabric which has the appearance of a woven fabric includes a supply station for parallel warp yarns, a support structure for orienting the parallel warp yarns into a cylindrical orientation, a weft yarn applicator for wrapping weft yarns around the cylindrically oriented warp yarns after an adhesive scrim has been overlaid onto the warp yarns, a heating station for activating the adhesive and a cooling station for setting the adhesive, and a cutter for severing the cylindrically formed fabric laminate so that it can be flattened and wrapped onto a take-up roller. The weft yarn applicator including a rotating drum wherein a plurality of spools of weft yarn material are mounted in circumferentially spaced relationship and a tensioner is provided for applying the weft yarn material around the warp yarns in a predetermined tension which may be the same as, greater than, or less than the tension in the warp yarns.

    Abstract: An expandable and contractible honeycomb insulating panel is described. The panel is formed by attaching a plurality of adjacent embedded tubular cell units, wherein each embedded tubular cell unit comprises at least one side having multiple layer s of material. In this manner, the panel has superior insulating or light blocking capabilitie s in a volume comparable to a honeycomb panel made of tubular cells having a single layer of material. In another form, a retractable cover for an architectural opening is described that includes such a honeycomb insulating panel. Also, the honeycomb insulating panel may be enclosed to provide insulation.

    Abstract: A control and suspension system for a retractable covering mounted on a rotating element includes an apparatus for mechanically limiting over-extensions of the covering and an apparatus for mechanically limiting over-retractions of the covering. The apparatus for limiting over-retraction includes a threaded shaft and an internal, roll-bar-support wheel treaded on the threaded shaft. An intercepting ledge comprising part of the internal, roll-bar-support wheel, and a stopping ledge comprising part of the threaded shaft. Over retraction of the covering is prohibited when the intercepting ledge impacts the stopping ledge. The apparatus for limiting over-extension includes a roll-bar-end support wheel having a down limit stop pivotally mounted thereto. When the covering material is fully extended, the limit stop rotates away from the roll-bar-end support wheel and impacts a substantially annular channel wall associated with an end cap, thereby preventing further rotation of the roll bar and thus further extension of the covering. The control and suspension system also includes an apparatus to compensate for any undesirable skewing of the covering that might occur. The skew adjustment apparatus includes a skew adjustment plate that is slidably mounted in channels on an end cap. A threaded skew adjustment plug is threadingly engaged with the skew adjustment plate such that rotation of the skew adjustment plug moves the skew adjustment plate. Finally, the control and suspension system also includes a bottom rail that attaches to the bottom of the covering by trapping a portion of the covering between a compression plate and a bottom plate.

    Abstract: A strip conveyor and stacker receives cut elongated flexible strips from a strip former and by conveying and stacking the strips produces a stack of strips such as a cellular panel for a window covering. The conveyor receives the strips from the strip former and includes a foraminous conveyor belt which holds the strips on the surface thereof by suction. At the stacker, the strips are discharged from the conveyor belt by applying a burst of pressurized air, thereby ejecting the strips into a stacker magazine. As the strips are stacked, the magazine is indexed to increase its depth, or a cellular structure formed by the stacked strips is withdrawn from the body of the magazine. An auxiliary magazine may be used to form a preliminary stack of soft, flexible strips prior to stacking in the magazine. A strip defect sensor scans each strip and causes the ejection of defective strips from the apparatus.
