Abstract:
A startup process of an access point (AP) includes a discovery phase and an announcement phase. During the discovery phase, the AP detects neighboring APs from its own extended service set (ESS), neighboring APs from different ESSs, and external sources of interference. During the announcement phase, the AP transmits its beacon signals at maximum power in order to accelerate recognition by neighboring APs running the discovery phase. An automatic initialization channel selection process of an AP scans channels the AP will use to communicate. Information of each scanned channel is recorded and a best performance channel is determined for use by the AP.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method and system for discarding the least amount of data in case a power outage is expected to occur in some timeslot during a future frame. The present invention discloses using Base Station (BS) information on the power transmitted during the last frame, along with information on the total amount of data, and the priority assigned thereto, that the BS has to transmit during upcoming frames, to make decisions on the type and quantity of data that should be removed to avoid severe power outage in the upcoming frames.
Abstract:
A method for communicating a list of handover candidates in a wireless local area network from a station to a serving access point (AP) begins by determining a list of handover candidate APs at the station. The candidate list is sorted at the station and is sent to the serving AP. The sending step can include sending the candidate list to the serving AP upon the expiration of a predetermined period of time or upon receipt at the station of an event trigger. The method can also include the step of requesting a candidate list from the station by the serving AP.
Abstract:
A method, access point (AP) and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in wireless communications are disclosed. Means are provided for a first communication station providing a load element for each of a plurality of access categories, and advertising the plurality of load elements to other communication stations.
Abstract:
A method for taking measurements with a smart antenna in a wireless communication system having a plurality of STAs begins by sending a measurement request from a first STA to a second STA. At least two measurement packets are transmitted from the second STA to the first STA. Each measurement packet is received at the first STA using a different antenna beam. The first STA performs measurements on each measurement packet and selects an antenna beam direction based on the measurement results.
Abstract:
A method and system wherein timeslots designated in a wireless communication system as Common Physical Channel (CPCH) timeslots may be reused for user traffic. A CPCH timeslot used in a first cell (102) may be reused by a second cell (104), assuming the first and second cells transmit control information in different CPCH timeslots, for user traffic. The second cell is permitted to reuse the timeslot in which the first cell is transmitting control information so long as the second cell's reuse of that timeslot does not degrade reception of control information in the first cell.
Abstract:
A method (5) and system wherein the coverage area of a plurality of base stations may be evaluated with respect to noise rise and power for assignment of system resources is disclosed (step 406). Path loss is measured to determine candidate base stations (step 402) and at least one timeslot is selected from within the candidate base stations for optimization of the uplink and downlink (408).
Abstract:
A method and system for improving interoperability of a radio network controller and a base station in a cellular system with downlink congestion control is disclosed. A message is sent from a base station to a radio network controller after the base station has discarded at least one transport block 14. the message sent to the radio network controller may be forwarded by the radio network controller to additional radio network controllers serving users affected by the discard of the at least one transport block.
