Abstract:
A plurality of virtual wireless networks are defined. Each of the plurality of virtual wireless networks has a different set of requirements. A node (22) is capable of producing a plurality of antenna beams or patterns (20-1 - 20-4). Each virtual wireless network is associated with a unique group of the antenna beams or patterns (20-1 - 20-4). Users (16-1 - 16-4) of each of the virtual wireless networks communicate using the antenna beams or patterns (20-1 - 20-4) associated with that virtual wireless network.
Abstract:
A wireless local area network (WLAN) includes a station (706), an access point (AP 702), and a network management entity (NME 704). A method for remote radio resource management in the WLAN begins by configuring a trigger condition at the AP(702). A determination is made whether the trigger condition has been met, and a notification message is sent from the AP (702) to the NME (704) if the trigger condition has been met.
Abstract:
A method, access point (AP) and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in wireless communications are disclosed. Means are provided for a first communication station providing a load element for each of a plurality of access categories, and advertising the plurality of load elements to other communication stations.
Abstract:
Several methods are provided for communicating emergency call capability information between a station and an access point (AP) in a wireless local area network. The methods include advertising by the AP of its emergency call capabilities and announcing by the station of its emergency call capabilities. The AP can advertise its emergency call capabilities in a beacon frame, a probe response frame, a reassociation response frame, or a reauthentication response frame. The station can announce its emergency call capabilities in an association request frame, a reassociation request frame, an authentication request frame, or a reauthentication request frame.
Abstract:
The present invention modifies existing media independent handover (MIH) function (MIHF) frame format as defined by the IEEE 802.21 standard. In one embodiment, the variable load of the MIHF frame is modified to eliminate the MIHF variable header by defining the MIHF identification (ID) field and the session ID field as fixed fields in the MIHF fixed header. Thus, the MIHF variable load is only made up of the MIHF payload. In another embodiment, a field such as an information element (IE), a header, or MIH service data such as a command or an event, is represented by a type field, a length field and a value field (TLV). The length of the value field is exactly 128 octets, and the length field only occupies one octet.
Abstract:
An improved method of network management, particularly in the context of standards IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.11k, through two new MAC measurements, with attendant advantages. The two new measurements include WTRU uplink traffic loading measurement, and an AP service loading measurement and is generally applicable at least to layers I and 2 as applied to a least 802.11k in the context of OFDM and CDMA 2000 systems, but is applicable to other scenarios as well. A Method for determining and advertising congestion is also provided for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system. The present invention also introduces a method for managing congestion when congestion is detected. This aspect of the present invention applies primarily to wireless systems that use the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/ Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. The methods are advantageously implemented in selectively configured WTRUs of various forms. (Fig. 3)
