Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a novel latex of rod-shaped polymer, having large surface area and strong thixotropic property, and useful as a paint, etc., by solubilizing a polymerizable monomer in a rod-shaped micelle, and polymerizing the monomer keeping the structure of the rod-shaped micelle. CONSTITUTION:A polymerizable monomer such as vinyl monomer, acrylic monomer, etc. is solubilized in a rod-shaped micelle, and polymerized keeping the structure of the rod-shaped micelle to obtain a rod-shaped polymer latex having an aspect ratio of >=3 and a thixotropic index eta3/eta30 (eta3 and eta30 are the viscosity values measured by the B-type viscometer at 3rpm and 30rpm, respectively) of >=1.5 as 15wt% aqueous dispersion. Preferably, the polymerizable monomer is solubilized in an aqueous solution of a surfactant having a dynamic modulus of >=0.01dyne/cm at a vibration frequency of 0.05-1.0Hz, and the polymerization is started and continued while adding the polymerizable monomer at a rate to keep the dynamic modulus of the above aqueous solution within the aforementioned range.

CONSTITUTION:The objective composition for vesicle contains (A) the compound of formula (R1 and R2 are 6-24C hydrocarbon group; A is 2-4C alkylene; Z is H or neutralized anionic hydrophilic group; n is integer of 0-20) and (B) a surface active agent of formula R3COOM or R3OSO3M (R3 is 6-36C hydrocarbon group; M is alkali metal, alkanolammonium, etc.) (e.g. sodium dodecylsulfate) at a weight ratio of 100:(1-100). The vesicle produced by suspending the composition in water and irradiating with ultrasonic radiation can be stored stably for a long period.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature sensitive gel-compounded material excellent in a response to a temperature change.
SOLUTION: This temperature sensitive gel-compounded material comprises an anionic water soluble polymer containing a recurring units derived from at least 1 kind of a monomer consisting of an acid having ≤4 acid dissociation constant (pKa) of first stage in an aqueous solution (25°C) and selected from a partial ester of phosphoric acid and partial ester of sulfuric acid, phosphonic acid and sulfonic acid, with a temperature sensitive gel, and the method for producing the same is also provided. Thereby, since in the temperature sensitive gel, a volume change occurs with temperature, it can be used in various uses.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a material with excellent effect of reducing the friction resistance which can be easily manufactured by applying the water paint containing wax, grease, or the mixture thereof having the melting point over the temperature of the environment in which the material is used on the surface of the solid base to be used for the surface in contact with the fluid. CONSTITUTION: Alkyl ketene dimer of four gram is mixed with the alkyd resin paint of 20g, and heated up to 50 deg.C and stirred. The temperature of the mixture is returned to the room temperature after one hour, the mixture is applied by a brush to the surface of a bottom 4 and a side 3 of a small model ship 1 made of slide glass and plastics, and dried. The angle of contact of water on the paint applied to the slide glass is 150 deg. to obtain excellent water repellence. The speed of the model ship 1 is larger than that of the ship on which the paint without any alkyl ketene dimer being mixed. Excellent effect of reducing the friction resistance can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition, containing phenylglyoxal and capable of imparting excellent elasticity such as tenseness and stiffness to hair and sustaining the effects for a long period by treatment one time even by repeating washing of hair, etc. CONSTITUTION:A keratinous fiber treating composition containing 0.01-10wt.%, especially 0.1-5wt.% phenylglyoxal. A method for, e.g. applying the composition to hair, then allowing the hair to stand for a prescribed time and washing off the composition, etc., is cited as a method for using the above-mentioned composition. The hair may be heated to a prescribed temperature during the period of allowing the hair to stand. If the hair is treated after pretreating the hair with a reducing agent, especially a pretreating agent containing thioglycolic acid or its salt, bonding of the phenylglyoxal to the keratinous fiber is promoted to further improve the elasticity imparting effects.
