Abstract: Access terminals and network nodes are adapted to conduct access terminal registrations. In one example an access terminal with a respective class designation may receive a message including a plurality of periodic registration schedules where at least one registration schedule is associated with an access terminal class. The access terminal may determine a periodic registration schedule associated with its respective class designation and may perform periodic access terminal registrations according to the determined periodic registration schedule. In one example a network node can obtain a plurality of periodic registration schedules with at least one registration schedule associated with an access terminal class. The network node can transmit a message including the plurality of periodic registration schedules and can conduct access terminal registrations according to the plurality of periodic registrations schedules. Other aspects embodiments and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: SYSTEM AND METHOD TO ADAPT TO NETWORK CONGESTIONIn a particular embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes receiving a feedback message at a transmitter, the feedback message including an indication of a magnitude of congestion and a sustainable rate of data transmission at a receiver. The method also includes determining a decongestion rate and a decongestion time based on at least one of the sustainable rate of data transmission and the magnitude of congestion when the magnitude of congestion satisfies a threshold value. The method further includes sending data at the decongestion rate from the transmitter to the receiver for the decongestion time. The method also includes adjusting a data transmission rate at the transmitter to the sustainable rate of data transmission after the decongestion time is ended.Figure 1

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the data rate of a reverse link communication of an access terminal includes receiving a reverse activity bit (RAB) from an access point in the communication system, and passing the RAB to a digital filter to produce a filtered RAB. The reverse link data rate is determined based on the filtered value of the RAB. Furthermore, a processor in the access terminal may determine whether the access terminal is in an idle mode, and passing a non-busy state value of the RAB to the digital filter when the access terminal is in the idle mode. The filtered RA may be compared to a threshold to determine a mode of reverse link data rate determination. The mode defines a set of criteria for an aggressiveness level of increasing or decreasing the reverse link communication data rate. The processor, therefore, determines the data rate based on the filtered reverse activity bit in accordance with the determined mode.

The access terminal maps the continuous fluid power level to actual physical transmissions by dithering among discrete power levels allowed by the physical layer.
