Abstract:
In one embodiment, a device for constructing a pilot signal for use in a wireless repeater where the pilot signal is added to a transmit signal includes one or more pilot generators. Each pilot generator generates a carrier pilot signal associated with a single carrier of the transmit signal and the carrier pilot signals generated by the one or more pilot generators are summed to generate the pilot signal. Each of the one or more pilot generators includes a pilot symbol unit providing multiple data symbols having a predetermined data structure as the carrier pilot signal, a pilot scrambler, a filter, a pilot power determination unit, and a cyclic prefix insertion unit for inserting a cyclic prefix to the carrier pilot signal. In another embodiment, the pilot symbol unit providing multiple data symbols in frequency domain as the carrier pilot signal.
Abstract:
A technique for processing video to determine which segments of video originate in a telecine and which conform to the NTSC standard is described herein. The current pull-down phase of the 3:2 pull-down (see below) in a telecine generated video segment is estimated and used to invert the telecine process.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to process multimedia data enabling faster channel acquisitions, improved error recovery and improved efficiency. An encoder device encodes a first portion of multimedia data using inter-coding to generate a first version, and encodes the first portion of multimedia data using intra-coding to generate a second version. A decoder device receives a first version of a first portion of multimedia data, wherein the first version is inter-coded, receives a second version of the first portion of multimedia data, wherein the second version is intra-coded, and selectively decodes the first and second received versions.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods of using content information for encoding multimedia data are described. A method of processing multimedia data includes obtaining content information of multimedia data, and encoding the multimedia data so as to align a data boundary with a frame boundary in a time domain, wherein said encoding is based on the content information. In another aspect, a method of processing multimedia data includes obtaining a content classification of the multimedia data, and encoding blocks in the multimedia data as intra-coded blocks or inter-coded blocks based on the content classification to increase the error resilience of the encoded multimedia data. Apparatus that can process multimedia data described in these methods are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention comprises devices and methods for processing multimedia data to generate progressive frame data from interlaced frame data. In one aspect, a method of processing multimedia data includes generating spatio-temporal information for a selected frame of interlaced multimedia data, generating motion information for the selected frame, and deinterlacing fields of the selected frame based on the spatio-temporal information and the motion information to form a progressive frame associated with the selected frame. In another aspect an apparatus for processing multimedia data can include a spatial filter module configured to generate spatio-temporal information of a selected frame of interlaced multimedia data, a motion estimator configured to generate motion information for the selected frame, and a deinterlacer configured to deinterlace fields of the selected frame and form a progressive frame corresponding to the selected frame based on the spatio-temporal information and the motion information.
Abstract:
A wireless repeater includes a channel estimation block to estimate a feedback channel between the antennas of the repeater using frequency domain channel estimation. The repeater includes a pilot signal blanking circuit to blank out a selected number of samples of the pilot signal to improve the accuracy of the channel estimation. In another embodiment, the repeater replaces T samples of the pilot signal with a cyclic prefix.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are described for processing a signal in wireless communications. The signal may have synchronization information. A method of processing a signal having synchronization information may include receiving the signal, and determining a truncation region of the time domain estimated channel, the estimated channel having taps. The method further includes eliminating the estimated channel taps with noise by thresholding within the truncation region.
Abstract:
Received communication signals may be decoded according to a combined, iterative inner code -- outer code decoding technique. The inner code decoding is based on information produced by the outer code decoding.
Abstract:
Aspects include systems and methods of improving processing in an encoder in a multimedia transmission system. Multimedia data may include one or more of motion video, audio, still images, or any other suitable type of audio-visual data. Aspects include an apparatus and method of encoding video data. For example, an apparatus and method of reduced reference frame search in video encoding is disclosed.
Abstract:
This disclosure is directed to techniques for encoding and decoding transitional effects, i.e., visual video effects that are used to transition from a current scene of a multimedia sequence. According to the disclosed techniques, an encoding device detects a transitional effect associated with a multimedia sequence during the encoding of the multimedia sequence, and transmits information as part of an encoded multimedia sequence to identify the transitional effect associated with the encoded multimedia sequence to a decoder. The information may comprise metadata that can be used by the decoder to simulate or re-create the transitional effect. The decoder simulates a transitional effect in response to the information.
