    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-density recording medium by alternately forming two circulating tracks whose data areas are on the land and the groove at each circulating track and using both the land and the groove as recording track. SOLUTION: Grooves GBs and lands LDs are formed so that they appear alternately at each circulation. The black portion of a service area ARs is a service pit and formed between recording/reproducing scanning loci SSPRs. The shaded portion of the data area ARd is the data track formed by a groove GB and unshaded portions are data tracks formed by lands LDs. Recording/ reproducing scanning by a laser scanning spot LSP is spirally performed in the solid arrow direction along the locus SSPR. By this, in comparison with the case where either one of the land LD and groove GB is used as data track, high density recording twice as high is realized.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the memory capacity over the entire part by recording reference patterns to be used as a reference at the time of reproducing of recording data in recording and reproducing regions. CONSTITUTION: The exact specification of writing positions in a ROM region is made possible by press accuracy in the case only the tops of the respective zones of the RAM regions are provided with the reference regions where 2T patterns and 8t patterns are recorded and, therefore, the 2T patterns and 8T patterns may be omitted as shown in Fig. (b). The useless recording regions are thus omitted as compared with the case the tops of the respective sectors are provided with the reference regions in the RAM region as well. The storage capacity of the optical disk is correspondingly improved. Only the top of the RAM region may be provided with the reference region as shown in Fig. (c) and in such a case, the useless recording regions of the RAM region are omitted and further, the storage capacity of the optical disk is improved.

As the results, a second reproducing signal S16 is obtained by detecting and correcting the fluctuations of a first reproduced signal S10 based on the results of difference between the DC level S31 and the first reproduced signal S10 and thereby data is reliably reproduced.

CONSTITUTION:When the magnetic field of an N pole or an S pole is imparted from a magnetic head 35 in response to a recording signal, the mark corresponding to the magnetic field is formed on a magneto-optical disk 31. Different from an optical modulating method, recording operation is positively performed on the magneto-optical disk 31 not only for recording the logic 1 but also for recording the logic 0. Namely, the logic 0 is not recording by not recording the logic 1 after the logic 1 has been recorded, but a part of the logic 1 is erased and then the logic 0 is recorded. In this way, the logic of multiple values can be accurately judged in a partial response method.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a data phase compensating circuit which has the high phase compensating accuracy together with its scale to be miniaturized and receives no influence of the temperature characteristic, the delay value, etc., by performing no control of an original channel clock if a reference bit has a defect or is not recorded yet. CONSTITUTION:A read-out reproduction signal is sampled by an A/D converter 2 with use of a channel clock, and a reference bit part is detected out of the sampled reproduction signal. A phase detecting circuit 3 detects a phase error of the channel clock to the reference bit part. Then the phase of an original channel clock is controlled based on the detected phase error for compensation of the phases of the channel clock and the reproduction signal. Meanwhile the original channel clock is not controlled if a reference bit has a defect or is not recorded yet. Thus it is possible to obtain a data phase compensating circuit which has the high phase compensating accuracy together with its scale to be miniaturized and receives no influence of the temperature characteristic, the delay value, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the circuit scale by applying modulation in compliance with the modulation rule corresponding to one and other mark numbers of digital data split into two while one of the digital data split into two corresponds to a low order of a modulation code and the other corresponds to a high order. CONSTITUTION:A 1 byte digital data is split into a high order 4-bit MSN and a low order 4-bit LSN, data bits b0-b3 are transferred to channel bits Ch1-Ch4 and data bits b4-b7 are transferred to channel bits Ch6-Ch9. Channel bits Ch0, Ch5 are used for flags applying inversion/noninversion according to the modulation rule and a channel bit Ch10 is used for matching mark number in a modulation code. When a digital data is converted into a modulation code by a gate circuit, since the modulation rule is simple, the gate number is considerably saved and the circuit integration is facilitated.
