    Abstract: A device and a method can judge the radial moving direction of light spots formed on the signal recording surface of an optical disc having grooves of two types that are different from each other in terms of depth and arranged along a recording track that is a land of the optical disc. The judging section of the device judges the moving direction of the main spot on the basis of binarized data of a difference signal of the main spot and binarized data of a difference signal of one of the side spots. With this arrangement, the moving direction of the light spots relative to a radial direction of the optical disc can be determined only by using difference signals without using any sum signal.

Here, the photo-detector has a four-split light receiving part and the optical disk device has a judging part 40 for detecting a seek direction of the optical pickup from the radial push-pull signal and tangential push-pull signal by the detection signal from the light receiving part of the photo-detector.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent release of PLL lock even in the state where tracking servo is released, by generating positive and negative threshold values from the amplitude value of a clock mark signal which changes at every moment, and using a gate signal corresponding to the sign obtained by comparing the clock mark signal with the threshold values, as a gate signal for generating a phase comparison signal. SOLUTION: Clock information is taken out, using a clock mark signal included in a signal (TPP signal) obtained by detecting clock mark formed on a signal recording surface of an optical disk by a push-pull mode in a tangential direction to the disk. To realize this, (Ea-Eb)/2 as a positive threshold value and -(Ea-Eb)/2 as a negative threshold value are found from a positive envelope Ea and a negative envelope Eb of the TPP signal. The threshold values and a sine wave part of the TPP signal are compared with each other, and whether signals come out in the order of a detection pulse signal A, an edge pulse signal and a detection pulse signal B or in the reverse order is detected. Thus, a PLL gate signal is produced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily remove the fluctuation of DC components superposed on a reproduced signal and to make the followup ability of a gain with respect to the fluctuation of input signals satisfactory and also to dispense with amplifiers capable of corresponding to the input signal of wide band. SOLUTION: In this optical disk device, the fluctuation of amplitudes of a reproduced signal and the fluctuation of DC components to be superposed on the reproduced signal are removed by performing the envelope detection of the reproduced signal by a peak hold circuit 32 and a bottom hold circuit 34 and by performing signal processings of an A/D conversion or the like while making the detected envelops value a reference voltage. On this occasion, this device copes with a fact that data clocks are different in zones by changing over the time constant of a means 15 performing the envelope detection in association with a zone from which the reproduced signal is obtained on the optical disk medium of a zone CAV system by a time constant changeover circuit 35. Moreover, the envelope value is always made proper with respect to the reproduced signal from a data area by interrupting an operation detecting an envelope in the part obtained from the non-data area of the optical disk medium in reproduced signals and by holding the envelope value before the interruption.
