    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify a device constitution by providing a specified difference of level between two sets of magnetic heads whose head widths are larger than a track pitch and making the following magnetic head scan projectingly from a recording track formed by the leading magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The same head width Tw is selected for magnetic heads A to D and a value for the width Tw is selected larger by specified amount than a track pitch Tp. Further, as to the heads A and B, the head B of a negative azimuth angle is arranged with a difference of level by the pitch Tp against the head A of a positive azimuth angle. Thus, a part of an area scanned by the leading heads at the time of recording is overwritten and recording tracks TA and TB are formed by the sequential pitch Tp. The heads C and D are arranged having a difference of level (m+2Tp) larger by a specified amount (m) against a distance twice as large as the pitch Tp. Recording tracks having azimuth angles opposite to those formed by the heads A and B are scanned by the heads C and D by straddling these tracks.
