Abstract:
A recording and reproducing apparatus uses a cassette including a recording medium such as tape (3) and which has a write-protect mode. The recording/reproducing means has a head (11, 12, 13) for recording data inputted to the apparatus on the recording medium (3) and/or reproducing data recorded on the recording medium (3); a detecting means (26) for detecting whether the cassette is set to a record-possible mode or a write-protect mode; and a control means (4, 15) for controlling the recording/reproducing means. The control means allows input data and attribute information of the recording medium to be recorded when the cassette is set to the record-possible mode and allows the attribute information but not the input data to be recorded when the cassette is set to the write-protect mode.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a tape cassette (1) in which a tape body is wound across a pair of tape reels (5, 6) rotatably supported by the cassette body (4). At the cassette body (4), there are provided a first write protect mechanism (31, 32) provided in correspondence with the position where there is provided a write protect mechanism provided at another tape cassette loaded with compatibility with respect to a recording/reproducing apparatus into which a tape cassette is loaded, and a second write protect mechanism (33) provided at the position which is not in correspondence with the position where write protect mechanism provided at the other tape cassette is provided, wherein the first write protect mechanism (31, 32) is in write protect state at all times. The first write protect mechanism comprises plural write protect mechanisms thus permitting distinction between a high density recording tape cassette and a low density recording tape cassette.

Abstract:
A tape cartridge housing a magnetic tape includes an auxiliary storage medium having a storage unit in which to store the recording medium information such as design parameters or the number of times of recording and/or reproduction of the magnetic tape, and a transmission/reception unit for effecting inputting/outputting of the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium is mounted so that the transmission/reception unit is exposed to outside through an opening provided in a lateral surface of the main cartridge body unit not obstructing the loading of the magnetic tape, that is in a surface of the main cartridge body unit other than its front surface as an inserting end of the tape cartridge into the inside of the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium has an antenna constituting the transmission/reception unit for inputting/outputting the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. It is through this antenna that the power is supplied from the auxiliary recording and/or reproducing unit provided on the recording and/or reproducing apparatus in accordance with a non-contact system transmitting the recording medium information and the power overlaid on the recording medium information.

Abstract:
A tape cassette is which a tape body is wound around a couple of tape reels rotatably supported to a cassette body. The cassette body has a first write inhibition mechanism provided at a place corresponding to the place where a write inhibition mechanism is provided in another tape cassette compatibly loaded in a recording/reproducing apparatus in which the tape cassette of the invention is loaded and a second write inhibition mechanism at a place not corresponding to the place where a write inhibition mechanism is provided in the other tape cassette, thereby making the first write inhibition mechanism always in a write-inhibition state. Even if a tape cassette on which an information signal is recorded in a recording format is loaded in a recording/reproducing apparatus for tape cassettes of a specific recording format which is one of different recording formats and is different from the recording format of the loaded tape cassette, the recording of information signals in the tape cassette is inhibited to protect the data already recorded.
Abstract:
A tape cartridge holding a magnetic tape has an auxiliary storage medium that includes a storage section where recording-medium information such as the specifications of the magnetic tape and the numbers of recordings and reproductions on and from the magnetic tape and a transmitting/receiving section for inputting/outputting recording-medium information to/from a recording/reproducing device in a noncontact way, namely by radio. The storage section and transmitting/receiving sections are provided in such a way that the transmitting/receiving section faces outside through an opening provided in a side of the cartridge body. The side is a side except for the front side which is the forward side when the tape cartridge is loaded into the recording/reproducing device, and does not obstruct the loading of the magnetic tape. The auxiliary storage medium includes an antenna that constitutes the transmitting/receiving section. Through the antenna, electric power is supplied from the auxiliary recording/reproducing section of the recording/reproduction device in a noncontact way in which the recording-medium information and power are superposed and transmitted.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the mounting of a tape cassette to a recording/reproducing device. SOLUTION: This tape cassette 1 is provided with one tape reel 3 inside the cartridge and a tape-like recording medium is wound onto this tape reel 3, and in this tape cassette, a leader tape having the rigidity higher than that of the tape-like recording medium is connected to the supply end of the tape-like recording medium, and a toothed part (projected part) 12b is formed on at least one part of both side edges of the leader tape, then the tape reel is provided with a flange part 5, etc., on upper/lower parts of the hub 4. Feeding teeth (engaging part) 7, etc., for engaging with the projected part of the leader tape are formed on the outer peripheral edge part of the flange part so that the leader tape is fed out from the cartridge in the manner of feeding the projected part by the engaging part in accordance with the rotation of the tape reel.
