Abstract: PURPOSE:To impregnate a molten matrix metal under pressure to reinforcing fibers and to obtain a fiber reinforced metallic composite material in the stage of combining and forming the reinforcing fibers and the matrix metal by heating only the part where the assemblage of the reinforcing fibers having a longitudinally long shape to a molding temp. CONSTITUTION:A forming mold 1 which is slightly longitudinally long is used and an assemblage 2 of reinforcing fibers is housed and disposed in the lower part of the mold 1. A heater 3 which heats only the lower part in which the assemblage 2 of the reinforcing fibers is disposed is provided to the mold 1. A molten matrix metal is then poured into the mold 1. A plunger 4 is then fitted to the mold 1 and the molten metal is pressurized to impregnate and combine the molten matrix metal into the assemblage of the reinforcing fibers. Since the lower part of the mold 1 is heated to the molding temp. in this stage, the reinforcing fibers and the matrix metal are satisfactorily combined.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber-reinforced composite metallic material with high productivity by disposing the assemblage of reinforcing fibers sandwiched by release plates into a mold, pouring the melt of a matrix metall under pressure into the mold to mold the same then separating the molding at the part of the release plates. CONSTITUTION:Release plates slightly larger than the assemblage of reinforcing fibers having a plate shape or other shape are pressed to both surfaces of said assemblage and the assemblage is tightened by bolting, etc. The laminate is then put into a heated mold for molding and the melt of a matrix metall is poured under pressure and is thereby molded. When the matrix metal solidifies, the molding is remved form the mold and the matrix metal part cast to the side faces where the release plates do not exist is cut off together with the bolts, then the mold is lightly tapped with a hammer or the like. The molding is thus easily stripped from the part of the release plates and the comosite material is easily taken out.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To inexpensive manufacture a carbonaceous material-metal composite material having superior properties by sticking tetraisopropyl titanate (TPT) to a carbonaceous material, drying it, and combining the carbonaeous material with a matrix metal. CONSTITUTION:TPT or a TAT soln. is stuck to a carbonaceous material such as carbon fibers or graphite particles and dried. A matrix metal, especially a light metal such as Al or Mg or a light alloy such as an Al or an Mg alloy is melted and impregnated into the carbonaceous material. Thus, the adhesive property of the carbonaceous material to the matrix metal is improved, and a carbonaceous material-metal composite material having superior properties is manufactured at a low cost.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To restrict heat transfer from a heating member to a power electrode by disposing a connection member between a terminal portion of the heating member and the power electrode to stable electrical connection therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A connection member 2 is disposed between a terminal portion 1 of the heating member and a power electrode to form high thermal resistance region on the connecting portion of the terminal portion 1 and the connection member 2 or in the vicinity thereof. As for the heating member, such as the one made of graphite or carbon fiber/carbon composite are used other than a usual heating member or seramic heating member. Further, as for the connection member 2, such as the one made of graphite or carbon fiber/carbon composite, conductive metallic silicide such as MoSiO2 or conductive nitride such as BN are used. Heat generated by the heating member is thus restricted to transfer to the connection member and further to the power electrode. As a result, thermal efficiency of the heating member is improved and degradation of the electrode due to the heat is prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the title members to be joined firmly by putting a prepreg made of carbon fibers and a carbonizable substance in the joint area between two carbon fiber/carbon composite members, pressing and heating it to join the members together, and baking in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A prepreg made of carbon fibers and a carbonizable substance (e.g., B-stage phenolic resin) is put in a joint area between a pair of members comprising either a carbon fiber/carbon composite or a material that will form a carbon fiber/carbon composite when baked, which is heated while the prepreg is pressed by the pair of members to join the members together and which is then baked in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. This technique enables carbon fiber/carbon composite members to be joined together very firmly to give a heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant, conductive joint; therefore, it can be utilized in assembling a heat generating device of a complicated shape and a heat generating device used in a corrosive atmosphere, wherein a carbon fiber/carbon composite is employed as heating element.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the cutting of a carbon fiber at the contact part with a mandrel due to difference in thermal expansion by facilitating the pulling-out of the mandrel, by preliminarily forming a base layer composed of a substance whose residual carbon ratio at the time of baking is a specific value or less to the periphery of the mandrel. CONSTITUTION:Paper (residual carbon ratio: 28%) is wound around a mandrel composed of rod-shape graphite to form a base layer. A prepreg. formed by impregnating a plain fabric with a methanol diluted phenol resin s wound around the base layer and heated to cure the resin and, subsequently, the whole is baked in a nitrogen atmosphere. The mandrel is easily pulled out of the baked body and the cutting or deformation of the carbon fiber is not confirmed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture the present material having no destruction and cracks at the time of cooling by depositing carbon fiber having specific characteristics around the core having the shape of a round bar in a barrel type mold, pouring the molten metal of the metal to be regulated to the matrix and thereafter subjecting the molten metal to cooling solidification while it is pressurized. CONSTITUTION:An assembled body 2 of carbon fiber as reinforcing material is attached around a core 1 having the shape of a round bar to deposit into a mold 3. In the assembled body 2 of carbon fiber, the part to be brought into contact with the core 1 has at least 26 ton/mm tensile elastic ratio and >=1.0% tensile breaking elongation; its fibrous shaft is constituted of carbon fiber 4 in the direction of the shaft of the core 1 and the outer part is constituted of carbon fiber 5 having the orientating direction in accordance with the application, etc. The simple metals such as Al, Mg, Sn, Pb and Zn and the molten metal 6 of the alloys thereamong are poured as the matrix metals into said mold 3 to pressurize by a plunger 7, by which the molten metal 6 is impregnated into the assembled body 2 of reinforcing carbon fiber and is solidified.
