    Abstract: PURPOSE: To facilitate the longitudinal cutting while obtaining the lateral strength and to improve the characteristics of a final product of digital video tape by specifying the thickness of a film, the Young's modulus of the lateral direction of the film and the tear propagating velocity of the longitudinal direction of the film. CONSTITUTION: Regarding biaxially oriented polyester film, the thickness of the film is specified to 8μm or less, the Young's modulus of the lateral direction (TD) of the film is specified to 800kg/mm or more, and the tear propagating velocity of the longitudinal direction (MD) of the film is specified to 50-300g/mm. Two or more layers of the films are laminated, inactive particles are contained in the outermost layer of one side, the mean particle size of the particles is specified to 0.2μm or less, and the thickness of the outermost layer is specified to 0.1μm or less. Further, the quantity of germanium contained in the film is specified to the range of 0.005-0.03wt.% of the polymer. When pancake manufactured in this manner is observed from the direction (1), slitting properties can be improved like a sample 3 as compared with a sample 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film excellent in scratch resistance which can withstand to severe service conditions as have recently been encountered. CONSTITUTION:A biaxially oriented polyester film contains 2 kinds of particles A and B, the contents of which in the film are 0.1 to 2wt.% and higher than 0.4 to 10wt.%, respectively. The particles A are one kind of particles selected from among alpha-alumina, gamma-alumina, delta-alumina, zirconia, titanium nitride and org. polymers and having an average particle size of 5 to 400nm. The particles B are one kind of particles selected from among silica, calcium carbonate, alumina, rutile titanium oxide and org. polymers and having an average particle size of 400 to 1,500nm.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To highly dimensionally reconcile electromagnetic conversion characteristics and a tape edge damage when a polyester film is formed into a magnetic tape by adding particles to the outermost layer at least on a single side and setting the thickness of the outermost layer and the average particle size of the particles to specific relation and setting the Young's modulus of the film in the lateral direction thereof to a specific value. CONSTITUTION:Particles are added to the outermost layer at least on a single side and the relation between the thickness (t) of the outermost layer and the average particle size (d) of the particles is set to the range of 0.2 or more. Polyester films having these characteristics are sufficiently dried to be laminated using two or more extruders, two or more manifolds and a confluent block to form a non-stretched film which is, in turn, biaxially stretched. As preheating and stretching rolls, Teflon or silicone rolls are used in order to improve the surface smoothness of the film. Next, this film is heat- treated.
