Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet print head capable of preventing as much as possible leakage of a fluid in a portion between adjacent passages in an ink passage structure directory formed on a heating plate. SOLUTION: This print head comprises a heating plate 28 having heating elements 34, driving circuits 32 and an array of connection leads 33 including contact points 31 for selectively applying electric pulses to each of the heating elements 34, all of which are provided on its one face, a passive layer 16 for covering the surface of the heating plate, driving circuits 32 and connection leads 33 without covering the heating elements 34 and connection points 31, a layer 24 which is piled on the passive layer 16, exposes the connection points 31 and is formed in a pattern such that multiple parallel passage grooves each having both ends are formed, and a cover plate 22 having holes 23. The cover plate 22 is aligned with and bonded with the layer 24 such that ink passages are formed from the passage grooves and nozzles 27 are formed from the passage opening ends.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form and treat an integral nozzle face having a hydrophobic area around a nozzle and a hydrophilic area in the periphery of the front, in a simple and inexpensive manner, by a method wherein a thin hydrophobic film is formed on the surface of the front and a hydrophilic surface of the lower layer is exposed by removing the film by a laser. SOLUTION: A print head 10 has an upper base 12 having a channel 16 and a lower base 14 having a plurality of resistance heating elements 15. In order to avoid accumulation of ink in a part adjacent to a nozzle 18, hydrophobic coating 22 is applied to the front 20 of the print head 10 and thereby a hydrophobic area 26 is formed around the nozzle 18. A coating material is preferably a Teflon-series material such as polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE). The coating 22 which covers the whole front of the print head 10 when it is formed at first is removed selectively by laser removal and areas 28 and 30 of the lower layer, e.g. a hydrophilic silicon surface 20 wherein the face of the print head 10 is exposed is thereby exposed.
