    Abstract: An improved electrostatographic process wherein the imaging surface of the imaging member is treated with a lubricating effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of ortho-, meta-, para-phthalic acid, their corresponding metal or ammonium salts, and mixtures thereof. Controlled treatment of the imaging surfaces of the imaging member with the above compound(s) facilitates transfer of the developed image from the imaging member to a receiving sheet and removal of toner residues from the imaging surface upon cleaning. The imaging member element of the apparatus used in carrying out this process is covered with a thin film of lubricant over substantially all of its imaging surface thereby greatly improving toner transfer and removal.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for removing dust particles deposited on the rear side of an image forming surface of a photoreceptor belt or drive rollers. SOLUTION: This foamed pad type cleaning device 94 consists of 1) an endless conductive foamed pad belt which has conductive foamed pads 110 extending outward from a base body 190 and is electrically biased, 2) rollers 102, 104, 106 and 108 around which the foamed pad belt is put and 3) flicker bars 120 which remove the collected particles from the foamed pads 110. One of the rollers supporting the foamed pad belt is the drive roller which moves the foamed pad belt by rotation and brings the clean foamed pads 110 into contact with the rear side of the photoreceptor belt 12.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a cleaning operation by eliminating residual toner, toner additive film and the other undesireble accumulation by providing a cleaning device with an ultrasonic cleaner having a hard blade slid on a photoreceptor in a wiping mode. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic cleaner 80 having the hard blade is arranged near the opposite side of a cleaning blade 50 arranged on the photoreceptor 10. Besides, the cleaner 80 is provided with a vacuum chamber. By the vacuum chamber, the moving photoreceptor 10 is held on the tip of the cleaner 80. Then, the photoreceptor 10 stands still on the tip of the cleaner 80. Besides, the speed of the cleaner 80 is set within the range of about 1500mm/sec to about 3000mm/see in order to clean the toner additive film. When the cleaner 80 is turned on or off, the toner additive film placed just above the tip of the cleaner 80 is removed. Then, a second film 20 is removed from the photoreceptor 10 by being hit by the cleaner 80.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method of eliminating negative frictional electrified toner grain more efficiently from the image formed surface in a printer or a copying machine. SOLUTION: Positive bias is applied to two cleaning brushes 100, 106 in this brush cleaning device. A toner patch K is eliminated by the first brush 100. A toner patch L left uneliminated is eliminated from the image formed surface 10 by the second brush 106 by fiber impact. In the case of a single-brush cleaning device biased positively, its rotating speed is made higher than the rotating speed of individual brushes of a dual brush cleaning device in order to clean negative frictional electrified toner with charge.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cleaning effect by applying vibrational energy to a cleaning means, thereby floating and removing grains on a surface. SOLUTION: A blade material 91 is attached to the top end of a waveguide 84, and the waveguide 84 is attached a piezoelectric vibrator 102 by an adhesive layer 103. The cleaning blade material 91 formed at the extension part of the waveguide 84. When the waveguide 84 is driven at a resonant frequency, the maximum vibration is applied to the cleaning edge of the blade 91. The structure of an ultrasonic device is used so as to be applied to blade force. The working angle 110 between the blade 91 and a photoreceptor 10 is varied within the range of about 5 deg. to about 20 deg.. This angle is set in accordance with the hardness of the blade 91, and the vibrating motion of the ultrasonic de ice is shown by an arrow 87. When the device 84 is actuated, the blade 91 immediately starts to remove the grains from the photoreceptor 10 with very small blade force.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for efficiently cleaning the image pickup surface of an electrostatic transfer system printer, or copying machine. SOLUTION: A scavenging roll 210 arranged with leaving a slight gap between the roll and the image pickup surface 11 is used as a primary cleaner. An ultrasonic auxiliary cleaning device 220 is installed just opposite to the roll 210. Toner 230 is separated from the image pickup surface 11 by the ultrasonic vibration, then, the toner 230 is attracted by the biased roll 210. The residual toner not cleanly removed from the surface 11 by the roll 210 is removed from the surface 11 by a biased conductive brush 200 in rotating. The brush functions as a secondary cleaner.

SOLUTION: In a dual (2-brush type) electrostatic brush cleaning device, a first cleaning brush 100 eliminates positive (+) toner grain in the moving direction of a photoconductor in order to eliminate residual grain and is negatively biased in order to charge the toner grain negatively. A second cleaning brush 105 positioned downstream in the moving direction of the photoconductor is biased positively in order to eliminate residual negative toner grain from the surface at the time of coming in contact with the photoconductor surface.
