    Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform stably continuous casting while preventing generation of breakout by connecting a means for controlling the molten metal level in a casting mold and a means for predicting the breakout as well as a drawing means. CONSTITUTION:A load cell 21 attached to a main rod 20 produces an output in accordance with the oscillating resistance of a casting mold 1. When the output from the cell 21 decreases owing to the rupture, etc. of a billet 4, the breakout is predicted. Then the drawing of the billet 4 is stopped or decelerated and a stopper driver 28 is actuated to descend a stopper 8, thereby limiting the charging amt. of a molten metal 3 and preventing generation of the breakout. A stopper 5 opens further at the same instant, then the molten metal arrives at a level 9, and the billet 1 is continuously drawn. The level 9 is adjusted to a target height.
