Abstract:
A hydraulic valve gear includes a novel rocker arm and support structure and lubrication means therefor. The rocker arm is mounted for oscillating motion in the plane defined by the axes of the valve stem and hydraulic valve lifter only, which permits the use of a simple, reliable and inexpensive lubrication system for the valve gear.
Abstract:
A ONE-PIECE ROCKER ARM WITH STRAIGHT SIDE WALLS AND A SEMI-CYLINDER BOTTOM BEARING SURFACE IS MOUNTED ON A FULCRUM HAVING CYLINDRICAL STUB SHAFTS ON WHICH ARE MOUNTED NEEDLE BEARINGS AND BEARING HOUSINGS, THE ROCKER ARM BEARING SURFACE HAS A NO-LASH ENGAGEMENT WITH THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE BEARING HOUSING WHICH ROTATES WITH THE ROCKER ARM AS A UNIT DURING A LOADED CONDITION OF THE VALVE TRAIN BUT ROTATES RELATIVE TO THE ROCKER ARM DURING THE UNLOADED VALVE TRAIN CONDITION DUE TO VIBRATIONS OF THE ENGINE AND INERTIA OF THE PARTS TO PROVIDE EVEN WEAR OF THE PARTS. THE FULCRUM IS PROVIDED WITH AN INTEGRAL SLEEVE SHAFT OF RECTANGULAR OR SQUARE CROSS-SECTION WHICH EXTENDS THROUGH THE ROCKER ARM BEARING SURFACE AND INTO A SLOTTED RECESS OR GROOVE IN THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD. A BOLT WHICH PASSES AXIALLY THROUGH THE SLEEVE SHAFT SECURES THE FULCRUM TO THE CYLINDER HEAD.
Abstract:
A PAIR OF ROCKER ARMS ARE EACH MOUNTED TO THE CYLINDER HEAD ON ITS OWN STUD, EACH CONTAINING A SEMI-CYLINDRICAL FULCRUM HAVING A FLAT SIDED SHANK DEPENDING INTEGRALLY THEREFROM AND NESTED IN A TROUGH IN A PLATE CONNECTING THE FULCRUM, THE PLATE PREVENTING RELATIVE ROTATION BETWEEN
THE FULCRUMS AND CYLINDER HEAD, THE FULCRUM SHAPE PREVENTING RELATIVE ROTATION LATERALLY BETWEEN THE FULCRUMS AND ROCKER ARMS.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine with an overhead valve configuration includes multiple integral bosses, an exhaust valve rocker stud including an upper portion and a lower portion, an intake valve rocker stud including an upper portion and a lower portion, a head plate supported by the integral bosses such that an air cooling passage is formed between the head plate and the cylinder head, where the head plate is fastened to the cylinder head by the lower portions of the exhaust valve rocker stud and the intake valve rocker stud, and a cover secured to the head plate such that the cover and the head plate enclose the upper portions of the exhaust valve rocker stud and the intake valve rocker stud.
Abstract:
A cover system for an internal combustion engine having an overhead valve or overhead cam configuration includes a cover attached to a head plate. The cover has sides extending from a top surface and terminating in a flange with an overhang. The overhang includes a catch. The head plate has sides extending from a bottom surface and terminating in a curl. The flange and the overhang are positioned adjacent to the curl with the catch engaging an end of the curl.
