Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved approach for a user of a computing device interact with a graphical user interface. SOLUTION: A rotational user action supplied by a user via a user input device can provide accelerated scrolling. The accelerated nature of the scrolling enables users to scroll or traverse a lengthy data set (e.g., list of items) faster and with greater ease. The amount of acceleration provided can be performed in successive stages, and/or performed based on the speed of the rotational user action. In one embodiment, the rotational user action is transformed into linear action with respect to a graphical user interface. The resulting acceleration effect causes the linear action to be enhanced such that a lengthy data set is able to be rapidly traversed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and its device for calling a program procedure, and switching performances of a plurality of object code types having various restrictions for a stack operation. SOLUTION: A computer system includes a routine describer, a stack switch frame, a mode switching mechanism for switching a code or call restriction type from a first processor to a second processor and a means for performing instructions of various code types. The routine describer describes a program, or a code segment, the code type and the call restriction. In encountering the instructions, control is transferred to the mode switching mechanism. When a routine calls the routine including another stack model, the mode switching mechanism uses the stack switch frame in order to provide transfer between the two stack types. Abstract:
Improved techniques for interaction between a host computer (e.g., personal computer) and a media player are disclosed. According to one aspect, interaction between a host computer and a media player, such as automatic synchronization of media contents stored on a media player with media contents stored on a host computer, can be restricted. According to another aspect, management of media items residing on a media player can be performed at and by a host computer for the media player. According to still another aspect, media content can be played by a media player in accordance with quality settings established for the media content at the host computer.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide power management ability to a device interconnection bus with which a plurality of devices are connected. SOLUTION: This power management system tracks the total power drawn from a bus by the bus and a device connected to the bus itself and the maximum power usable from the bus based on individual operational status of each device. Whether or not there is sufficient excess power for additionally operating the device is determined from the information. Efficient use of limited power is provided so that many devices are operated while maintaining draw of the total power within an allowable range. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a node for a communication system that has a plurality of ports, each of which may be connected by a point-to-point link. SOLUTION: The node for the communication system for transmitting signals between the node and a node apart to the communication system has a first bus, a second bus, a repeater for connecting the first bus and the second bus, a transmitter for transferring the signal to a first node apart, a receiver for receiving the signal from the second node apart and a multiplexer circuit. In a first mode, the multiplexer circuit cuts off the transmitter and the receiver from the first and the second buses. In a second mode, the multiplexer circuit selectively connects the transmitter to the first bus so that a signal is transmitted from the first bus and selectively connects the receiver to the second bus to receive the signal. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bus transceiver in which a high speed binary transfer mode for half-duplex binary transfer of data signals is combined with a ternary control transfer mode having a full-duplex dominant logic transmission scheme for full-duplex transfer of control signals. SOLUTION: The transceiver for communications via a transmitting channel has a receiver connected to the transmitting channel, and the receiver receives data according to a binary signal status driven on the transmitting channel from the transmitting channel in the first mode and receives data according to a ternary signal status driven on the transmitting channel from the transmitting channel in the second mode. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a laptop personal computer which is capable of rationally performing a key input to a keyboard and point/click of a cursor. SOLUTION: The laptop personal computer is configured as follows: a keyboard is adjacently arranged to a display screen on a main housing where a display housing is turnably coupled; a palm supporting portion is positioned on the top of the main housing near to a user from the keyboard; and a cursor control unit is arranged in the palm support portion such that both hands of the user reaches the cursor control unit during an operation state of the keyboard. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for dispersing and concentrating information. SOLUTION: The device encodes data words by constant weight on a parallel data line bus while communicating the information between sub-word passes. A data transfer rate obtained only by differential architecture conventionally is achieved only by increasing a line count slightly more than single ended architecture. For instance, 22 encoded data lines are needed for transmitting 18 bit data words, and conventionally, 16 and 32 lines are needed for transmitting non-encoding data by the single ended architecture and the differential architecture respectively. According to the parallel encoding of the constant weight, a constant current is maintained in a parallel encoded data line and in a high potential and low potential driver circuit for a signal wire.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for organizing information in a computer system, particularly one having a graphical user interface which includes graphical representations of documents. In the method of the invention, the user creates a pile (or collection of documents) by positioning the cursor (for example, a pointer) over one graphical representation of a document and then selecting that document and moving the graphical representation of the document (by moving the cursor) over to another graphical representation of another document and then depositing the first document on top of the second document in order to create a pile. The system will typically display a graphical representation of the pile which is different than the graphical representation of each document separately and after a pile is created, the original graphical representation of each document in the collection will typically no longer be displayed. A sideways view of the graphical representation of the document replaces the original graphical representation of the document, and the sideways view of the graphical representation is located in the graphical representation of the collection. The user may then browse through the pile by positioning the cursor at an item in the pile for a predetermined period of time to reveal a proxy within a viewing cone for the item positioned under the cursor. After the user creates a pile, the system may display a base (or plinth) under the pile to further indicated to the user that the collection of documents is a pile and to allow the user to select the pile as a group. The user may then select the pile for further action by pointing the cursor to the base of the pile.
