Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To noninvasively measure multiple physiological parameters.SOLUTION: A physiological sensor is adapted to removably attach an emitter assembly and a detector assembly to a fingertip. The emitter assembly is adapted to transmit optical radiation having multiple wavelengths into fingertip tissue. The detector assembly is adapted to receive the optical radiation after attenuation by the fingertip tissue. The sensor has a first shell and a second shell hinged to the first shell. A spring is disposed between the shells and urges the shells together. An emitter pad is fixedly attached to the first shell and configured to retain the emitter assembly. A detector pad is fixedly attached to the second shell and configured to retain the detector assembly. A detector aperture is defined within the detector pad and adapted to pass optical radiation to the detector assembly.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of updating parameters of physiological monitor system such as blood components.SOLUTION: A physiological monitor, on which a sensor is attached, has a sensor port configured so as to communicate with the sensor. A processor board communicates with the sensor port and has a board digital signal processor (DSP). A firmware resident on the processor board can be executed by the board DSP in order to calculate physiological parameters according to a sensor signal received from the sensor. When the sensor is connected to the sensor port, a plurality of update tools can be individually connected to the sensor port instead of the sensor in order to determine which one of the physiological parameters (if any) should be calculated and designate it for the processor board.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for detecting and calculating the level of ambient and/or environmental noise, such as electromagnetic interference generated by electric power lines, ambient lights, light dimmers, television or computer displays, power supplies or transformers, and medical equipment. In some embodiments, the system performs frequency analysis on the interference signal detected by light photodetectors and determines the power of the interference signal concentrated in the analyzed frequency bands. The worst-case interference level can be determined by selecting the maximum from the computed power values. In some embodiments, the determined interference signal power can be compared with the noise tolerance of a patient monitoring system configured to reliably and non-invasively detect physiological parameters of a user. The results of the comparison can be presented to the user audio-visually. In some embodiments, the system can be used to perform spot check measurements of electromagnetic interference.

Abstract: An optical measurement device includes a light source, a first detector, and a second detector. The light source emits light to a measurement site of a patient and one or more detectors detect the light from the light source. At least a portion of a detector is translucent and the light passes through the translucent portion prior to reaching the measurement site. A detector receives the light after attenuation and/or reflection or refraction by the measurement site. A processor determines a light intensity of the light source, a light intensity through a tissue site, or a light intensity of reflected or refracted light based on light detected by the one or more detectors. The processor can estimate a concentration of an analyte at the measurement site or an absorption or reflection at the measurement site.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a patient monitor, such as a pulse oximeter, functions as a spot check glucometer when in communication with a blood glucose strip reader.
