Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for counting, sorting, and manipulation of cells, organelles, and/or cellular material using capillary-channeled polymer films.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) for dispensing liquid in conjunction with an array of pipette tips (14), where each pipette tip (36) includes a socket portion (42). The liquid dispensing apparatus (10) includes tubes (25), each including a barrel (28) and a lower end (33), and a nozzle (34), each nozzle (34) having a shoulder (68) and a mouth (44) configured of appropriate diameter to enter into the socket portion (42) of each pipette tip (36), and form a liquid-tight seal therewith. A bottom plate (24) includes a number of through-holes (72) through which each of the nozzles passes (34). The through holes (72) are of larger diameter than the nozzles (34) so that limited lateral movement is allowed. A second embodiment (100) is convertible, so that separation of upper (73) and lower boundaries (75) may be decreased such that the upper boundary (73) contacts the shoulders (68) of said nozzles (34), to hold the nozzles (34) in fixed position, for use with pipette tip arrays (96) which are not bound together in fixed spatial relation to each other, but which are themselves allowed limited lateral movement. Both embodiments (10, 100) may further include a shucker plate (50) such that when the shucker plate (50) is made to travel away from the bottom plate (24) by an ejection mechanism (85), the pipette tips (36, 97) are pushed off of the nozzle mouths (44).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a valve to be used in a washing gun where said valve is provided with an inlet for the washing fluid and an outlet to be connected to a nozzle, and a trigger mechanism for controlling the flow of fluid through the valve, the valve being provided with means such that the force necessary to be exerted on the trigger by the hand and fingers of the operator is independent of the static pressure of the washing fluid provided to the washing gun, whereby a more user-friendly operation with less fatigue of the muscles of the hand and the fingers of the user is obtained, and such that when said force on the trigger is removed, for instance by the operator unintentionally dropping the washing gun during operation hereof, the fluid flow from said inlet chamber to said nozzle is automatically interrupted, thus preventing possible damages caused by the washing fluid.
Abstract:
A sill corner key for use in a sill assembly configured to be supported on a base surface, the sill assembly including a lineal base member and a vertical jamb. The sill corner key includes a vertical component having a top surface, a bottom surface, and an inner wall extending between the top surface and the bottom surface, the inner wall defining a sealant pathway formed therein. The inner wall is configured to slidably receive a portion of the lineal base member and the sealant pathway is configured to direct a fluid sealant to flow along the portion of the lineal base member within the inner wall.
Abstract:
The present invention is based on the discovery that protective antigen related molecules (PARMs) without anthrax lethal factor have antiangiogenic or anticancer properties. The invention is directed to a method of inhibiting an angiogenic disease/disorder or cancer. Additionally, the invention can be applied to those at risk for developing cancer or an angiogenic disease/disorder comprising administering to a mammal an angiogenesis-inhibiting or cancer inhibiting amount of an PARM (including analogs, or derivative thereof having angiogenesis-inhibiting or anticancer activity, consisting of PA, PA fragment, analog, or derivative that is administered in a composition substantially free of anthrax lethal factor or other toxins).
Abstract:
A system (10) for reducing volume of material used in laboratory processes includes a low-volume micro-plate (70, 80) with a number of wells (14) bound together with matrix material (16). The wells include secondary wells (74, 84) having reduced volume and volume limiting plugs (20). The volume limiting plugs (20) have a shank portion (30) and tip portion (28), where the shank ant tip portions are configured to extend a substantial distance into a well (14) of the microplate to reduce the volume of the well.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a washing gun with improved ergonometric characteristics, which washing gun basically comprises a nozzle section (8), a hand grip section (9, 9', 9'') and a trigger (6) where the hand grip section (9) is placed such relative to the nozzle section (8) that the distance between the longitudinal axis (2) through the nozzle section (8) and the longitudinal axis (4) through the forearm of the operator is essentially zero or at least significantly reduced compared to prior art washing guns, such that the torque due to the reaction force exerted on the wrist of the operator is significantly reduced, leading to less fatigue during operation of the washing gun. Furthermore the trigger (6) is positioned in such a manner, that the reaction force from the jet of fluid leaving the nozzle (8) helps to maintain said trigger (6) in an activated position during use of the washing gun.

Abstract:
A sill corner for use in a sill assembly supported on a base surface, the sill assembly comprising a vertical jamb and a lineal base member. The sill corner comprises a vertical component with a top surface adapted to receive the vertical jamb and a bottom surface adapted to abut the base surface. A horizontal component extends transversely from the vertical component and the horizontal and the vertical components are a unitary element. The top and bottom surfaces of the vertical component are separated by a height, the height being between about 1.00 and about 3.00 inches.
