Abstract: METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECORDING AND USING EXPOSURE DATA IN A PHOTOGRAPHIC SYSTEM A method of operating a photographic camera to provide exposure information in association with a latent image picture frame includes the step of automatically providing a nominal exposure for the picture frame. An operator-selected exposure is provided for the picture frame which differs from the nominal exposure by a known under- or over-exposure. The picture frame is exposed in accordance with the operator-selected exposure, and data is recorded in association with the picture frame indicating the difference between the nominal and operator-selected exposures. A method of operating a photographic printing system is provided, responsive to the recorded data, for marking a photographic print to indicate to an observer the under- or over-exposure of the negative. A method of operating a transparency processing system is provided wherein, responsive to the recorded data, the slide mount is marked with the under- or over-exposure.

Abstract: METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING, RECORDING AND USING SCENE INFORMATION IN A PHOTOGRAPHIC SYSTEM A method of operating a photographic camera to record data in correspondence with a picture frame includes activating a flash to provide illumination for exposing the picture frame onto a photographic film. Sensing is performed to determine if light generated by the flash is reflected from a subject in the picture frame. Data is recorded in association with the picture frame indicating if reflected light is sensed. In accordance with a method of operating a photographic printer to print a negative frame, the reflected flash illumination data associated with the negative frame is read. An appropriate exposure for the negative frame is selected based at least in part on the presence or absence of the sensed reflected flash illumination.

Abstract: FILM CASSETTE HAVING FILM-EXPOSED STATUS INDICATOR A film cassette is disclosed wherein a filmstrip is advanced to the outside of a lighttight cassette shell in order to expose successive imaging areas of the filmstrip and can be returned to the inside of the cassette shell before all of the imaging areas have been exposed or after the filmstrip has been substantially completely exposed. According to the invention, a filmexposure status indicator is supported on the cassette shell for movement relative to the shell from a normal first position to successive second and third positions for providing respective visible indications that the filmstrip is generally unexposed, the filmstrip has been returned to the inside of the shell before all of its imaging areas have been exposed, and the filmstrip is substantially completely exposed.

Abstract: A cassette puller for an automated storage and retrieval system that stores biological or chemical samples in freezers maintained at ultra-low temperature (e.g., -80°C) or cryogenic temperatures includes a vertical sleeve into which the selected cassette (24) is lifted. The cassette puller (30) is mounted to a traveling gantry and transports cassettes (24) from one freezer location to another and to the system input/output module. The cassette puller (30) comprises a sleeve (38) into which a cassette (24) from the freezer bay in the freezer chest is lifted, the sleeve (38) containing at least one access opening to allow removal of a selected tube storage rack or plate on a shelf in the lifted cassette (24). Other components such as a rack robot, a tube picking mechanism, a sample identification station, etc. are mounted on the traveling gantry as well.
