Abstract:
The method and apparatus of this invention accommodate vibrations that occur in a body rotating about its geometric axis when the body passes through critical speed by maintaining the moment of inertia of the body while allowing the body to shift its rotational axis to that of its mass center. A disk (40) is bearing mounted on the drive shaft (11) of the rotating body and supported in its peripheral position by sliding bearings (60, 64, 68).
Abstract:
A swinging bucket-type centrifuge is disclosed which is capable of operating in either swinging bucket or fixed angle mode. The buckets mounted on the rotor have a release bracket which can be automatically actuated to release the tubes mounted in the buckets.
Abstract:
An analyzer apparatus for analyzing components of a sample has a conduit and an electrochemical sensor in the conduit. The sample is passed through the conduit using a carrier liquid that is immiscible with the sample and non-wetting of the inner wall of the conduit to reduce instabilities in the apparatus due to undue fluid movement.
Abstract:
The invention provides a reactive derivative of dialkyl amino compounds, particularly dialkyl amino drugs, for facilitating the conjugation of the drug, directly or through a bifunctional spacer, to a carrier compound such as proteinaceous materials. The derivative has formula (a) wherein D is the drug and n is an integer greater than 1, and preferably equal to 2. The drug derivative carrier conjugate can be used as an immunogen for production of antibodies specific to the drug. Additionally, the conjugate can be coupled to a solid support, such as a polymer particle, for use as a particle reagent in immunoassays specific to the drug.
Abstract:
Degradation of multielectrochemical sensors in a common flow stream is averted by positioning any sensors having as its associated enzyme an oxidoreductase enzyme capable of producing, as a result of interaction with its respective substrate, an oxidizing agent downstream of the other enzyme sensors not having such oxidoreductase enzyme.

Abstract:
A pre-processor for use in performing heterogeneous immunoassays on samples for analyses in the sample employing concentrically positioned incubating and processing carousels. A single transfer station permits reaction vessels containing sample and reagents to be moved between the carousels. The samples are separated, washed and mixed on the processing carousel and incubated on the incubating carousel thus speeding up processing throughput.
Abstract:
A method is provided for enhancing the stability and increasing the activity of polymer particle reagents by incubating a polymer particle which has been covalently bound to a compound of biological interest, such as a drug, with a modifying agent that will place a negative charge on the surface of the polymer particle and reduce residual functional groups. The modifying agent is preferably an anionic nucleophile selected from the group consisting of beta -mercaptoacetic acid and the thiosulfates.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel carbamazepine hydrazide compound suitable for covalent attachment to a polymer particle reagent, having general formula (1). The present invention also provides a novel carbamazepine acid compound suitable for attachment to proteins for the production of carbamazepine immunogens. The carbamazepine antigen of the present invention has general structure (2), where X is C=O, CH2 or SO2; Y is C=O, CH2, SO2; R is an alkyl and P is a protein or a hapten.
