The present invention relates generally to the preparation and use of novel enhanced biological tissue adhesives which rely on combining fibrinogen and thrombin. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method of preparing a fibrin sealant whereby said sealant is formed by reconstituting the fibrinogen component in the presence of various critical biological and non-biological agents. The invention further relates to a novel method of using said enhanced fibrin sealant whereby the sealant and accompanying agent are delivered directly to a critical site within the body and sealed in place due to the biostatic quality of the sealant resulting in enhanced therapeutic value derived by the prolonged presence, and optionally time-released delivery, of said accompanying agent at the critical site.

A gel electrophoresis separation apparatus comprising, in combination, a gaseous heat-exchange medium, a gaseous heat-exchange medium driving means, and an impingement means, whereby the gaseous heat-exhange medium is driven by the gaseous heat-exchange medium driving means across the impingement means to provide a flow of the gaseous heat-exchange medium on the surface of the gel plates, whereby the flow induced by passage of the gaseous heat-exchange medium through the impingement means thereby minimizes temperature gradients within the gel by forced convection.

This invention relates to the use of a unique apparatus and method for extracting radioactive components from liquids, such as elctrophoresis buffers. In the present invention, the radioactive liquid is pumped or transported by other suitable means and is passed through a cartridge having an elongated chamber that contains an exchange medium. The exchange medium, i.e. exchange resin, is contained within the elongated chamber between an upper frit and a lower frit. Further, the cartridge has a means within the elongated chamber for retaining pressure between the upper frit and the lower frit. The nucleotides, being charged molecules, bind to the exchange medium and are removed from the liquid. The liquid then exits the cartridge and has such a low amount of radioactivity that it can be disposed of to a conventional drain.
