Abstract: 592,701. Tapping; inserting studs. DODD, J. Aug. 29, 1945, Nos. 22222 and 27698. [Class 83 (iii)] In a machine attachment for tapping holes or screwing up studs &c. and embodying a slipping clutch, the members of the clutch are held in engagement by a cushion of rubber or like resilient material which is deformed to regulate the pressure between the clutch members. The driving element 7 of the clutch is axially slidable in a housing 2 and on the driving spindle 5, the rubber &c. cushion being packed between the back of the clutch member and the end of the housing, such cushion being cylindrical in form or, as shown, in the form of a series of rings 9. The driven clutch member 11 is rotatably mounted and secured against relative axial movement in a flanged screwed sleeve 13 engaging the housing 2. Adjustment of the sleeve varies the compression of the rings 9 and therefore the pressure between the clutch teeth 8. Similar cushioning means 28 is provided between the end of a centring stud 30 and a counterbore in the extension 12 of the driven clutch member to prevent damage to screw-threads on the withdrawal of a tap. The housing 2 may be calibrated to indicate the pressure on the clutch teeth. Sockets.-Tke tool adaptor 18 is keyed to the holder 22 and is secured by rotating an outer sleeve 23 to wedge steel balls against the adaptor.

Abstract: 10,340. Dodd, J. C. June 6. Bathrooms.-A floating bath consists of a rectangular frame composed of girders b and airtight carrying-tanks a, a platform c forming the floor of the bathers' rooms d, which support a promenade g, and an adjustable bottom, which may be made in two parts separate by a footway. The end rooms are made of canvas &c., so as to be collapsable and adapted to be folded down in rough weather. Both promenades have rails, and are connected by ladders or stairways. The bottom of the bath is made of planks, with spaces between them, and can be raised and lowered by means of winding ropes or chains, racks and pinions, or other means. Each tank a is removable, and has a pipe, nozzle, or the like at the top, fitted with a tap to allow the entry or withdrawal of water. Fender plates or shields are provided at the front. A counterbalanced gangway is pivoted to the upper promenade, and is hinged at the foot to facilitate raising and lowering.
