    Abstract: Pyridine-2,3-dicarboximides of the general formula I I where R1 is hydrogen, alkoxy or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl (excluding C1-C4-dialkylaminoalkyl if one of the radicals R2, R3 or R4 = NH2 or OH), cycloalkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, at least one radical R2, R3 or R4 is nitro, an OR5 or NR6R7 group, and the remaining radicals R2, R3 and R4 are identical or different and are hydrogen, halogen, cyano, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, benzyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, phenoxy or phenylthio, a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic radical having one or two heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen, or unsubstituted or substituted phenyl; R5 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkylcarbonyl, C1-C4-haloalkylcarbonyl, C1-C4-alkoxycarbonyl, C1-C4-alkoxy-C2-C4-alkoxycarbonyl, C1-C4-alkylcarbamoyl, C1-C4-dialkylcarbamoyl, C1-C4-alkylsulfonyl, C1-C4-haloalkylsulfonyl, sulfamoyl, C1-C4-alkylaminosulfonyl, C1-C4-dialkylaminosulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, which can be substituted one to three times by C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-haloalkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-haloalkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, halogen, cyano or nitro; R6 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy or together with R7 C=S and R7 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkylcarbonyl, C1-C4-halo-alkylcarbonyl, C1-C4-alkoxycarbonyl, C1-C4-alkoxy-C2-C4-alkoxycar-bonyl, C1-C4-alkylcarbamoyl, C1-C4-dialkylcarbamoyl, C1-C4-alkyl-sulfonyl, C1-C4-haloalkylsulfonyl, sulfamoyl, C1-C4-alkylamino-sulfonyl, C1-C4-dialkylaminosulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, which can be substituted one to three times by C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-haloalkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-haloalkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, halogen, cyano or nitro; excluding 6-amino-5-cyano-5-phenyl-2,3-pyridinecarboximide; and their agriculturally utilizable salts are described.
