Abstract:
A system for measuring the color quality of rounded objects is disclosed. A stand (18) has a mandrel (24) for holding the object in a fixed position. Preferably, the mandrel (24) includes an expandable bladder (38) mounted for rotation on an axle (40). The stand (18) has a reflectometer (10) coupled thereto in such a way as to permit angular movement of the reflectometer (10) in a fixed plane. The can is clamped in a fixed position between the mandrel (24) and the reflectometer (10) such that the densitometer is in a fixed radial orientation relative to the surface of the object. Different points on the surface of the object may be measured by rotating and translating the object and/or the reflectometer (10). Rotational and translation control of positioning can be performed automatically.
Abstract:
A color measurement system includes a measurement patch (200) utilizable on a continuous sample of color printed matter. The patch (200) has a first predefined shape with a color reference area (202) centrally located on the patch (200) and a high contrast feature (204) located proximate to an edge of the patch (200). A camera scans the sample and generates a location signal upon detection of the high contrast feature (204) which permits accurate positioning of a measurement sensor.
Abstract:
An improved light sensing apparatus (28) is disclosed. A cylindrical housing (30) has a first opening (32) in one end thereof and a second opening (33) in the other end thereof. A glass window (34) is affixed to the housing to cover the first opening. At least one filter (36) is mounted within the housing interiorly of the window. A glass sphere (38) is mounted within the housing interiorly of the filter. A header (44) having a light sensor mounted thereon is affixed to the housing to cover the second opening. A lip (30b) on the housing proximate to the second opening is crimped inwardly to help secure the header into the housing.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically establishing the position of a printed sample (18) relative to a reflectometer (14). The sample (18) is placed on a measurement table (10). A target incorporated with the sample (18) causes a step change in the reflectometer output signal when the target (26) is scanned by the reflectometer (14). By analyzing the step change, the location of the target (26) relative to the measurement table (10) is determined. The location of all points on the sample (18) are known relative to the target (26), thus the location of all points on the sample (18) relative to the measurement table (10) can be determined.

Abstract:
