Abstract: To provide a method for manufacturing a mask blank capable of manufacturing a high quality mask blank that suppresses generation of defects in a thin film for forming a mask pattern with high yields, a method for manufacturing a transfer mask that manufactures the thin film of the mask blank by patterning, and a sputtering target used for manufacturing the mask blank. By using the sputtering target containing silicon and having a hardness of 900 HV or more in Vickers' hardness, the thin film for forming the mask pattern on a substrate is formed by sputtering, and the high quality mask blank that suppresses generating of defects is manufactured, and further the transfer mask is manufactured by patterning the thin film.

Abstract: To tellurite optical glass comprising TeO2, high valence components are added and may be a combination of La2O3, at least one of B2O3 and GeO2, and at least one of Ta2O5 and Nb2O5. The high valence components may include Y2O3, Gd2O3, and Yb2O3. Amounts of TeO2 and La2O3 are restricted to ranges between 10% and 80% and between 5% and 35%, respectively. A sum of B2O3 and GeO2 must fall within a range between 1% and 30%, with an amount of GeO2 restricted between 0% and 22%. A total of La2O3, Y2O3, Gd2O3, and Yb2O3 must be between 5% and 50%. A sum of Ta2O5 and Nb2O5 should range from 1% to 26%, with individual amounts of Ta2O5 and Nb2O5 kept between 0% and 20% and between 0% and 26%, respectively.

Abstract: A filter for a camera comprises a filter plate, and a split frame formed from a thermoplastic synthetic resin and holding the filter plate therein. The frame is composed of an internally threaded front portion and an externally threaded rear portion adapted for attachment to the lens holding tube of the camera. The front and rear portions are integrally secured to each other by thermal fusion, with an adhesive, by threaded connection, and combinations thereof. Also disclosed is a method of making such a filter. The thermal fusion of the frame portions is advantageously effected by application of ultrasonic waves.

Abstract: A dyeing method for dyeing plastic lenses or the like employed as lenses for eye glasses and exhibiting excellent dyeability. The lens is dipped into a dyeing solution while being moved by a combination of a small-amplitude short-cycle time up and down reciprocating motion superimposed on a large-amplitude long-cycle time up and down reciprocating motion. The lens is minutely oscillated according to the small-amplitude short-cycle time up and down reciprocating motion while being periodically moved up and down in the dyeing solution according to the large-amplitude long-cycle time up and down reciprocating motion. The lowest position of the lens obtained by the large-amplitude long-cycle time up and down reciprocating motion is raised gradually. Also disclosed is a dyeing apparatus which is used to carry out that dyeing method.

Abstract: A process for the production of a slab-shaped lens having a gradient of refractive index only in the direction of thickness thereof is described, comprising stuffing a solution of dopant into micropores of a plate-shaped porous glass product with or without a heat-resistant film covered on both side surfaces thereof; unstuffing a part of the dopant to form a gradient of dopant concentration in the glass product; precipitating the dopant in the micropores; drying the porous glass product to evaporate the solvent remaining in the micropores; collapsing the micropores by applying a heat treatment to form a gradient of refractive index in the plate-shaped glass product; and when the side surfaces are not covered with the film, cutting off both side end portions of the plate-shaped glass product.
