    Abstract: Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) apparatus and methods for surface acoustic wave (SAW) switching are disclosed. The apparatus includes a piezoelectric substrate having spaced apart input and output SAW transducers. A MEMS switch is arranged between the input and output SAW transducers The MEMS switch has a deformable member in electromagnetic communication with one or more actuation electrodes formed on or above the substrate. The deformable member is deformable to mechanically contact the substrate to deflect or absorb a SAW generated by the input SAW transducer.

    Abstract: Fast multiplication of two operands may be achieved by an interstitial product generator that generates an interstitial product from each of a plurality of mult-ibit segments of a multiplier. Generation of a final product is made faster because fewer interstitial products are created than in prior systems and, therefore, summing of the interstitial products is faster. In one embodiment, an interstitial product generator is used having registers to store a multiplicand value ("A"), shifted values of A and a 3 A value. A series of multiplexers and an inverter may generate interstitial product values from data in these registers. This embodiment is useful with four bit segments of the multiplicand.

    Abstract: In a wireless network, secure synchronization may be achieved with two messages. A beacon initiator may provide a beacon timestamp field and a beacon nonce to devices in the network. A device in the network that wishes to synchronize with another device may send a message containing a variety of parameters including the beacon timestamp field and the nonce. Upon receipt, the receiving device can check a key included in the message, the beacon timestamp field and the nonce to determine, not only that the sender has a valid key, but that the message has a valid time so that one can be reasonably sure that the message was not simply copied. The receiving device then sends a message response which contains verifiable parameters to enable the message sender to be sure that the sender is communicating with a valid receiver.

    Abstract: A substrate, such as a printed circuit board (PCB), has pairs of pads to which terminals of electronic components, such as capacitors, can be mounted. The pads have perimeters, for example, in the shape of rectangles, circles, or ovals. In one embodiment, to reduce asymmetrical, lateral, surface-tension forces that can cause the components to tombstone due to uneven heating of solder fillets on the pads during solder reflow, the edge of the perimeter of each pad opposite the inter-pad region contains one or more notches or indentations. Also described are an electronic assembly, an electronic system, and various methods of fabrication.
