Abstract: 14,968. Van Kannel Revolving Door Co., [Van Kannel Revolving Door Co.]. July 14. Doors.-Relates to collapsible revolving doors in which the wings D are provided with pins c engaging grooves B in disks B mounted near the ends of the central spindle A, and with toothed segments a engaging pinions C carried on the spindle. The door-wings have recesses D into which fit boxes D embracing the edges of the disks and carrying the pins c, which are provided with shoes b engaging the grooves B in the disks. The pins c are adjusted by the screw e, the box D being formed with a hole d giving access to the pin. The wings are provided with spring studs f engaging notches f in the edge of the disk when the wings are in the normal radial position, the head of the stud being formed with inclined sides f so that the stud easily enters into and out of engagement with the notches. The disks B are formed with shoulders e against which the studs f bear after the wings have been turned through a certain angle, causing the spindle itself to revolve so that the wings may be folded back on each other. A draught-excluding joint is made between the spindle and the wings by ribs g on the spindle, which engage grooves i in the edges of the wings. The wings are secured in the radial position by ties attached yieldingly at one end and detachably at the other end, so that in case of excessive pressure during a panic the ties are released and the door wings collapse. The holding-devices for the ties are contained between plates F, F in horizontal slots in the wings, one end G of the tie G being inserted through a slot S' in the plate F and detachably held between a spring dog Q and a jaw Q on a sliding bar R, while the other end is securely held by a bolt t in a slot U in a sliding bar k. Movement of the sliding bars R, k is resisted by a spring Shaving its ends bearing against upstanding portions U, l on the bars. The plates F, F are adjustable on the wings by screws m bearing at one end against the wing E, and a nut n bearing against a part P on the plates.

Abstract: 14,836. Van Kannel Revolving Door Co., [Van Kannel Revolving Door Co.]. July 13. Doors.-Revolving doors convertible into swing doors have three or more wings hinged to a central spindle by double-jointed hinges so that the wings can be folded back in case of panic. In the arrange. ment shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 8, each hinge has one outer leaf e' secured to the inner edge of one of the door wings c ... c the other outer leaf being fixed to a wooden seating d' carried by the spindle b. Plates l fixed to the door-wings are formed with recesses m to accommodate the pivot cylinders f when the wings are folded up. Beads g on the edges of the wings engage grooves g in the seating d to form a light-tight joint. Pressure on opposite wings c , c folds them parallel with the wings c , as shown in Fig. 3, while the wing c' turns until the shoulders l of notches in the plates l, embracing a disk k fixed on the spindle, bear against the edge of the disk, causing the spindle to turn with the wing c until the wings take up the position shown in Fig. 4. The wings may be kept in the radial position by springs in the cylinders or on the wings, and are connected normally by links or ties provided with soft metal connecting links or hooks which yield to abnormal pressure. By fixing the spindle so that a pair of wings are transverse to the entrance, the door may be used as a swing door. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the door is provided with three wings, one leaf of the hinges being secured to a bar d supported on the spindle by two loops h. The wings may be secured to form a revolving door as shown in full lines or as shown in dotted lines to form a swing door.

Abstract: 125,865. Beck, O., and Van Kannel Revolving Door Co. Sept. 2, 1918. Revolving doors.-In a revolving door having collapsible wings tied by yielding cables, the cable attachments to the wings are so constructed that a supplementary adjustable resistance is afforded by the yielding mechanism before the wings automatically collapse under unusual wind or other pressure by pulling out the cable end from the wing. One end d of a cable is fastened on a sliding bar e, which is controlled by a spring f and yields under a pressure slightly less than is required to detach the cable head d . Under increased pressure, the head d slips from a clip g and dog h , the grip of which is produced by a spring k adjustable by a plate l and nut m on a screw l . For hand release in case of emergency, the clip g may be tilted bv a small lever not shown in Fig. 1. The dog h' forms part of a box h, and the spring f bears at one end against the box and at the other end against a fixed post c and also against lugs projecting from the sliding bar e. The cable end d is detachably secured in a mutilated or segmental flange of a cup j, which has a squared spindle to receive a key.
