Abstract:
This is directed to providing offline purchasing of media items using an electronic device. One or more media items that are not part of a user's media library can be stored on an electronic device. When a user later wishes to play back one of the media items, but the device cannot connect to a communications network to provide payment information for purchasing the media items, the electronic device can use pre-paid credits that were purchased and stored by the device when a communications network was available to complete the purchase. By using pre-paid credits, the media store can be assured that the user has sufficient funds for the media item purchase.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of performing a simplified data transfer are provided. For example, a simplified data transfer system (10) may include two or more devices configured to perform a simplified data transfer. The first device (58) may be configured to save and transfer data associated with applications open on the first device (58). When the second device (36) initiates communication, the first device (58) may automatically send the open application data to the second device (36).
Abstract:
Systems and methods for switching between an electronic paper display and a video display are provided. Control circuitry in an electronic device can analyze visual content to determine one or more features of the visual content. For example, the control circuitry can analyze visual content to determine the rate of change and/or color composition of the visual content. Based on the one or more features, the control circuitry can selectively enable the device's electronic paper display or the device's video display.
Abstract:
Various techniques are provided for carrying out peer-to-peer financial transactions using one or more electronic devices 10, 92. In one embodiment, a request for payment is transmitted from a first device 10 to a second device 92 using a near field communication (NFC) interface 46. In response to the request, the second device 92 may transmit payment information to the first device. The first device may select a crediting account and, using a suitable communication protocol, may communicate the received payment information and selected crediting account to one or more external financial servers 100 configured to process and determine whether the payment may be authorized. If the payment is authorized, a payment may be credited to the selected crediting account. In a further embodiment, a device 10 may include a camera 48 configured to obtain an image of a payment instrument. The device 10 may further include an application to extract payment information from the acquired image.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided that allow for a portable electronic device 10 to provide smart menus to a user based on a context of a transaction. Specifically, the method of using a portable electronic device 10 may include opening a near field communication (NFC) channel with a point-of-purchase device 80 and providing a smart menu based on a determined context. The portable electronic device 10 may be configured to determine the context based at least in part upon acquiring sales transaction information for the point-of-purchase device 80. Additionally, the portable electronic device 10 may be configured to determine the context based at least in part upon acquiring vendor identification information.

Abstract:
There is provided systems and methods for to conducting wireless transactions using portable electronic devices 10. Specifically, for example, a method of conducting a wireless transaction is provided that includes initiating a wireless transaction using a short range wireless communication system of a portable electronic device 10. The method also includes obtaining security information via at least one secondary system 160 of the portable electronic device 10 and utilizing the security information obtained via the at least one secondary system 160 to authenticate the portable electronic device 10 for the wireless transaction.
