Abstract:
A novel antibiotic-producing Streptomyces sp. is provided that exhibits antifungal activity only on certain specific plant pathogens. Also provided is a method of treating or protecting plants from fungal infections comprising applying an effective amount of an antibiotic-producing Streptomyces sp. having all the identifying characteristics of NRRL Accession number B-30145. The invention also relates to fungicidal compositions comprising this novel Streptomyces strain and the antibiotics and metabolites produced by this strain either alone, or in combination with other chemical and biological pesticides.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a unique strain of Bacillus subtilis for inhibiting growth of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria and methods for treating or protecting plants from fungal and bacterial infections.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel antibiotic produced by Bacillus subtilis ATCC 55614 that is effective against plant fungal and bacterial infections. The invention also includes methods of protecting plants from fungal and bacterial infections comprising the step of applying to the plant an effective amount of the antibiotic, optionally in combination with the antibiotic-producing Bacillus subtilis, another antibiotic-producing bacterial strain and/or a chemical pesticide.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods of preventing and treating above-ground fungal and bacterial infections in plants comprising the step of applying to the plant an effective amount of at least one antibiotic-producing Bacillus sp. bacterial strain AQ175 having ATCC Accession No. 55608, AQ177 having ATCC Accession No. 55609 or AQ178 having ATCC Accession No. 53522 or at least one antibiotic produced by the strains. The invention includes methods of preventing and treating above-ground fungal and bacterial infections in plants using whole broth cultures or supernatants obtained from cultures of the bacterial strains or antibiotics produced by the bacterial strains. The invention also includes preventing and treating above-ground plant diseases using more than one antibiotic-producing bacterial strain, a combination of whole broth and/or supernatant obtained from the bacterial strains and combinations of the antibiotics produced by the bacterial strains.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a newly discovered Bacillus sp. strain which exhibits pesticidal activity. The supernatant of cultures of this novel isolate are also effective pesticidal agents. Also provided are methods of using the novel strain or supernatant for treatment or prevention of disease in plants or animals.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel Bacillus thuringiensis strain that exhibits broad antifungal and antibacterial activity. The invention also provides the use of the Bacillus thuringiensis strain or the antibiotic produced by the strain for control of a broad range of fungal and bacterial plant pathogens.
Abstract:
This invention provides a method for repelling biting insects such as mosquitoes by topically applying to the skin of a subject emu oil, fractions of emu oil obtained by flash chromatography or a composition comprising emu oil and citronella. Also provided are methods for repelling biting insects by topically applying diluted fractions of emu oil. The invention also provides a compound useful in repelling biting insects having the NMR spectrum of Figure 3, that is ultraviolet light sensitive and is reactive to vanillin/sulfuric acid. Also provided are compounds useful in repelling biting insects having the NMR spectrum of Figure 4, that is not ultraviolet light sensitive and is not reactive to vanillin/sulfuric acid. A composition for repelling biting insects comprising emu oil and citronella is further provided.
