Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition (a) a detergent package comprising: (i) a metal salixarate; and (ii) optionally a detergent other than component (a)(i); (b) a dispersant package comprising: (i) a dispersant with a carbonyl to nitrogen ratio of 1 or higher; and (ii) a dispersant with a carbonyl to nitrogen ratio of less than 1; (c) an antioxidant package comprising: (i) a hindered phenol; and (d) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the composition has a phosphorus content of less than or equal to 800 ppm; and wherein the sulphated ash content is less than or equal to 1.1 weight percent of the composition. The invention further provides a process for preparing the composition and its use.
Abstract:
A composition comprises a sulphur free reaction product of: (a)(i) a hydrocarbyl substituted aromatic compound containing an acidic group selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic group, a hydroxyl group and mixtures thereof; and (a)(ii) an organic nitrogen-containing base reacted with the acidic group. The composition is obtained by a preparatory process and is useful in a method for lubricating an internal combustion engine to include where the lubricant has reduced levels of sulphur, phosphorus and sulphated ash.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition comprising: (a) a metal salixarate; (b) at least one additive selected from the group consisting of (1) an antioxidant; (2) a friction modifier; (3) a dispersant; (4) a viscosity modifier; (5) a dispersant viscosity modifier; and (6) an antiwear agent other than a metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate; and (c) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the composition contains 400 ppm or less of phosphorus derived from a metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate. The invention further provides a process for preparing the composition and its use.
Abstract:
A detergent composition comprises a Mannich reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted ortho-alkyl substituted phenol (1) or a mixture of the phenol (1) and a hydrocarbyl-substituted phenol (2), an aldehyde, and an amine where the phenol (1) is present in the mixture at about 50 mole % or higher. Concentrate and fuel compositions include the detergent composition. A method of controlling deposits in an internal combustion engine comprises operating the engine with the fuel composition which results in unexpectedly superior detergent performance.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of lubricating an aluminium-composite surface by supplying to the aluminium composite surface (typically an internal combustion engine aluminium surface) a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless antiwear agent.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a hydrogenated copolymer of an olefin block and vinyl aromatic block, wherein the copolymer is optionally functionalised. The invention further provides a method for preparing a hydrogenated copolymer; and the use of the lubricating composition.
