Abstract:
A core network architecture for supporting an internet protocol based network is disclosed. The system includes a base station which is configured to convert a signal from a first network to an internet protocol network signal and send the converted signal through the internet protocol base network. The network also includes a gateway which is configured to receive the converted signal and deploy the converted signal through the internet protocol base network. In this sense, the internet protocol base network manages the call mobility and delivery of the signal. The base station in this disclosure may be a femto base station and the first network may be a code division multi-access (CDMA) network.
Abstract:
A method for provisioning, registering and authenticating a mobile phone on a base station is provided. The method includes receiving an addition request (201) for the addition of a mobile station to a base station authorization record via an interface. The method continues with creating an entry for tne mobile station (207), where the entry includes mobile station information, and receiving a registration request including request information from the mobile station to register to receive base station based services via the associated internet multimedia subsystem network. The method also includes authorizing registration on the IMS network based at least in part on the request information.

Abstract:
Users of CDMA observant devices (101) want to access services which are available on Internet Protocol based networks. In order to achieve smooth data transfer, problems with latency and data performance have to be overcome. Therefore a method for interconnecting the two different protocols is disclosed, the method comprising the steps of : - registring a CDMA mobile station (101) on an IP based network system employing a base station (115) that is configured to convert a signal from the CDMA mobile station (101) to a SIP signal; - connecting a call between an end user and the CDMA mobile station(101) through an IP based network(109); -processing said call through an IP based system (135).
Abstract:
The invention includes a method and apparatus adapted for providing quality-of-service to a packet flow within a Radio Access Network (RAN). In one embodiment, a method includes receiving packets of a packet flow at a first network element of the RAN, where the packet flow is associated with an application normally served in a best effort service class of the RAN and each packet of the packet flow comprises an indication of a quality-of-service policy to be applied to the packet flow within the RAN, and, applying the indicated quality-of-service policy to the packet flow within the RAN. The quality-of- service policy to be applied to the packet flow within the RAN is based on at least one characteristic of the packet flow, which may be determined in any manner, such as using information included in the packet headers, using deep packet inspection techniques, and the like. The indication of the quality-of- service policy to be applied to the packet flow within the RAN may be set either inside the RAN or outside the RAN.
