To drive a leaf (2) of a swing gate (1) a linear actuator operating device (110) is used, wherein a piston (124) operated by a worm screw (17) moves with a reciprocating translating movement along the axis of the screw (17). Said piston comprises a carriage (124) longitudinally slidably mounted inside the body (11) of the actuator, and a comb (132) transversally slidably mounted inside the carriage (124) to pass from a position of engagement in which it engages with the thread of the screw (17) to a position of disengagement in which it does not interfere with the thread of the screw (17). There is further provided a connecting device (80, 180) able to connect said actuator (110) to a post (4).
