Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus that provides for user interaction with soft key functions on a wireless communication device (100) where the number of softkey functions exceeds the number of physical softkeys available. An initial assignment of softkey functions to the available softkeys (118) on the user interface of the wireless communication device is made. Thereafter, subsequent softkey assignments may be altered through an interaction with the navigation keys (120). Additionally, the user is given the option of selecting among different softkey function presentation and alteration schemes.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system has a plurality of information server computers coupled by a wired network (100) and a plurality of wireless mobile devices (106,134,136) that communicate using a wireless network (102), each mobile device including a network browser, a display and a processor. A server (114) couples the mobile devices to the information server computers through the wireless network and the wired network. When a particular one of the network browsers desires to access a resource from one of the information server computers, the server determines whether a resource request therefrom is to an information server computers that provides spatial-related information and, if so, determines an appropriate location of interest and produces a revised resource request. The device (106) can therefore, for example, cause a display screen thereof (116) to display an identifier of at least one other wireless device and a status indicator pertaining thereto or the location thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a wireless communication system (100) that utilizes a remote voice recognition server system (109) to translate voice input received from serviced mobile devices (102, 103) into a symbolic data file (e.g. alpha-numeric or control characters) that can be processed by the mobile devices. Initially, a voice communication channel (126) is established between the serviced mobile device and the voice recognition server. A user of the mobile device then begins speaking in a fashion that may be detected by the voice recognition server system. Upon detecting the user's speech, the voice recognition server system uses a voice recognition application to translate the speech into a symbolic data file, which is then forwarded to the user through a separate data communication channel (128, 130). The user, upon receiving the symbolic data file at the mobile device, reviews and edits the content and further utilizes the file as desired.
Abstract:
A system configured to manage and process service requests within a data network comprises a link server device (114) that is configured to receive a service request from an interactive communication device (106), wherein the link server device attaches link server information to the service request indicating the operational capabilities of the link server device. A server device (112) is configured to receive the service request from the link server device and supply a service request response based upon information in the service request and the link server information. The link server device executes a service command upon receipt of the service request response and supplies a status response to the interactive communication device.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and system for controlling the exchange of sensitive private information between a client device and content server devices. A proxy server device (208) is operatively connected between a wireless client device and the server devices to manage distribution of the private information. The proxy server device has a storage area (248) to store such information and a privacy manager (228) which operates to restrict the release of the information to other server devices unless a suitable privacy agreement governing the use of the information is in place. Thus, the exchange, as well as the use and nature, of the sensitive information released can be governed by one or more privacy agreements established between the principle parties.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a wireless communication system (100) having a storage device (112) for storing a list containing status information and identifiers for a plurality of previously identified wireless communication devices (102). A processor in a mobile communication device can retrieve and store a list containing status information and identifiers for a plurality of previously identified mobile devices from a remote server device and display them on the display screen thereof. By utilizing subscriber status information a user can determine the status of a mobile device associated with the intended recipient of a call or message prior to any attempt to contact that person. The interaction between the mobile device used by the user and the monitored mobile devices can be through a phone call or a text message, either of which can be initiated with minimal device interaction by using embedded contact information.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a method for utilizing bookmarks on a wireless client device (100). By operating a button on the device keypad (108), one of a plurality of bookmarks is selected. A compact request is then transmitted to a proxy server device (116) for the document or file represented by the selected bookmark and the universal resource locator thereof is obtained. Thereafter, a non-compact request for that document or file, including the universal resource locator, is prepared and forwarded to a remote server identified by at least a portion of the universal resource locator. Particular keys on the keypad can be assigned bookmarks whereby pressing and holding the assigned key generates the bookmark.
Abstract:
A system for displaying idle content information on wireless computing devices during idle times is disclosed. A wireless computing device (106) receives from a wireless network (102) idle content information specified by an address identifier identifying a network resource in the wireless network. When the device determined as being idle, the idle content information is displayed on the device display (116). The idle content information might be the network operators customer support telephone number or advertisements. A browser program within the device may be modified to support looping content, interaction with idle displays, automatic scrolling, and automatic updating of idle content information.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a mail synchronization system. A local mail system (104) provides electronic mail services to a desktop computer (114) and includes a local mail server (116) and a mail synchronization client (118). The local mail server manages storage, receipt and delivery of electronic mail messages with respect to the desktop computer, can display a list of electronic mail messages in a local inbox, and stores the list in the local mail server. A wireless mail system (112) provides electronic mail services to a mobile device (108) and includes a mobile device mail application, a mobile device mail server and a mail synchronization server. The mobile device mail server manages storage, receipt and delivery of electronic mail messages with respect to the mobile device, can display a list of electronic mail messages in a remote inbox, and stores the list in the mobile device mail server. The mail synchronization client and said mail synchronization server interact to synchronize the list of the electronic mail messages for the local inbox and the remote inbox in a two way manner without user interaction. Thus, the user is able to effectively see and interact with only a single "virtual" mailbox, which is the synchronized combination of the two different electronic mailboxes.
