    Abstract: Signals generated by an array of photodiodes are applied to the inputs of corresponding edge detection circuits. Each edge detection circuit generates an output that changes state in response to a detected edge of the photodiode generated signal. The edge detection circuits may be formed by toggle flip-flop circuits. The outputs of the edge detection circuits are logically combined using exclusive OR logic to generate an output. The exclusive OR logic may be formed by a cascaded tree of exclusive OR circuits.

    Abstract: A radiation sensor includes first and second pixels with a radiation absorption filter positioned over the first pixel and an interference filter positioned over both the first and second pixels. The combined spectral response of the absorption filter and the first pixel has a first pixel pass-band and a first pixel stop-band. The spectral response of the interference filter has an interference filter pass-band which is substantially within the first pixel pass-band for radiation incident on the interference filter at a first angle of incidence, and substantially within the first pixel stop-band for radiation incident on the interference filter at a second angle of incidence greater than the first angle of incidence.

    Abstract: A computer input optical navigation device has a radiation source capable of producing a beam of radiation; a sensor for receiving an image; and an optical element for identifying movement of the feature; wherein the optical element is formed from a single piece and includes at least one frustrated total internal reflection (F-TIR) surface. A further surface may be used to direct the reflections and beam to the sensor. The input surface may be convex, like a dome, with undulations to prevent scattered reflection. The optical element may be a plastics material such as poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate, cycicyclophane copolymer). The illumination source may use a fly-eye, and the device may be used in mobile phones, remote controls or other applications requiring a small input mouse.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a circuit used in the output stage of an operational amplifier which allows a rail to rail swing of the output voltage while consuming low quiescent power. The circuit comprising first (Q1) and second (Q2) control elements each having a controllable path and a control node. The circuit further comprises a third control element (Q3) having a controllable path connected between said control nodes of said first and second control elements via a resisted path (R1,R2). A voltage indicative of a signal input to amplifier is received by a node on the resistive path (R1,R2), such that current flow through the controllable path of said first control element (Q1) and said third element (Q3) changes in response to a change in the voltage at said node; and such that current flow through said controllable path of said second element (Q2) changes independence on the current flow through the controllable path of said third control elements (Q3), whereby as one of the first and second control elements (Q1,Q2) is turned on, the other is held off.

    Abstract: A method of converting a periodic pulse width modulated input signal into a voltage output signal wherein the input signal is in an active state for a first portion of each of successive time periods and in an inactive state for a second portion of each time period. A first and second input is supplied to an integrator circuit and a first capacitor is coupled between a first output of the integrator circuit and the first input and a second capacitor is coupled between a second output and the second input of the integrator circuit during a first time period of the pulse width modulated signal. A third capacitor is coupled between a first output of the integrator circuit and the first input and a fourth capacitor is coupled between a second output of the integrator circuit and the second input during a successive second time period of the pulse width modulated signal. Said coupled capacitors are charged during the active state of the first and second time periods and discharged during the inactive state of the first and second time periods.
