Abstract: A fluid connection and control device for fluid machines permits fluid inlet or outlet connections without the necessity for threaded adapters. This is accomplished by a radially symmetrical body (25) having first and second ends and a central axial fluid passage (28) connecting the ends. The body is appropriately sized for the fluid channel of the fluid machine and has a provision (22) at the first end for attachment of a flexible hose (20). The second end has a provision for a fluid tight seal between the body and the fluid channel as well as a mechanism by which the body is captured within the fluid channel (15) of the fluid machine. Options are provided for incorporation of a valve mechanism (33) for controlling the fluid flow. The valve mechanism may be incorporated as an integral part of the body or as a separate modular unit (fig. 3) which is retained in the fluid channel (15) by the connector body (25). This provides the advantages of rapid assembly and avoidance of undue stresses to the fluid machine housing, and also provides flexibility of the hose directly adjacent the housing which contributes to improved maneuverability.

Abstract: A contacting apparatus (50) for providing intimate contact between pulp and a gaseous bleaching reagent has an elongate substantially cylindrical chamber (60) having an inside diameter proportional to a mixing capacity and an inlet (52) for pulp and for the carrier gas and the gaseous bleaching reagent; a rotatable shaft (54) extending through the chamber along an axial centerline of the chamber; provisions, mounted on the rotatable shaft, for radially tossing the pulp within successive transverse planes to maintain a substantially uniform distribution of pulp across the radial extent of the cylindrical chamber (60) with a minimum of axial mixing; and further provisions for regulating gas flow through the inlet (52) to transport the pulp through the mixing apparatus, the flow being proportioned to provide a predetermined pulp residence time within the chamber as determined by dimensions of the chamber, rotation speed of the shaft, concentration of the bleaching reagent, pulp consistency, and pulp production requirements.

Abstract: Dispositif de branchement et de régulation hydraulique conçu pour des machines hydrauliques et permettant un branchement hydraulique d'entrée ou de sortie sans avoir recours à des embouts filetés. Ceci s'effectue au moyen d'un corps radialement symétrique (25) possédant une première et une deuxième extrémité, ainsi qu'un passage de fluide central axial (28) reliant lesdites extrémités. Le corps est dimensionné en fonction du passage de fluide de la machine hydraulique et comporte un élément (22) situé à la première extrémité et servant à fixer un tuyau souple (20). La deuxième extrémité comporte un élément conçu pour un joint d'étanchéité au fluide, situé entre le corps et le passage de fluide, ainsi qu'un mécanisme au moyen duquel le corps est capturé à l'intérieur du passage de fluide (15) de la machine hydraulique. Un mécanisme de clapet (33) peut éventuellement se trouver dans le dispositif afin de réguler l'écoulement du fluide. Ledit mécanisme peut, soit constituer une partie intégrale du corps, soit se présenter en tant que module séparé retenu dans le passage du fluide (15) au moyen du joint (25). Abstract: A method and apparatus for regulating reaction rate between a gaseous bleaching reagent and wood pulp in a bleaching system, of the type having a mechanically agitated pulp contactor (120), including the steps of co-currently or counter-currently introducing a recirculated contacting gas (R) for diluting freshly supplied reagent gas (F) and for thereby reducing the initial reaction rate between the reagent and pulp. Except for the initial reaction rate, overall bleaching performance is quite insensitive to wide variations in the amount of recirculating gas (R) introduced. This allows adjustment of flow rate to control gas velocity through the contactor (120) for purposes of overall bleaching efficiency. Degradation of pulp fibers due to overbleaching is virtually eliminated, and uniformity of bleaching is greatly enhanced without any sacrifice in production rate.
