Abstract: 1,030,557. Photographic printing and processing apparatus. VICTOREEN INSTRUMENT CO. Oct. 5, 1964, No. 40425/64. Heading G2A. A film strip 20, which is developable by heat alone, passes in contact with a master film strip 16 round an exposure cylinder 27, then round a heated drum 37 for effecting the development, then round a cooling drum 43, and finally along both sides in succession of an elongated light source in a frame 46, to fix the image, and on to a take-up reel 23. The master film strip 16 passes from a supply reel 14 to a take-up reel, and is in contact with the strip 20 only while passing round the exposure cylinder 27 (stage I), which has a pointsource of light within it. Cylinder 27 has an inner cylinder 31 (Fig. 4, not shown) of infra-red-absorbing glass, and is also air-cooled. It contains an opaque arcuate shutter, adjustable by a guide 36 to control the exposure. In stage II (heat development), strip 20 passes round the heating drum 37, and then round a guide roller 39 adjustable along a curved track 41, so as to vary the length of strip 20 which is actually in contact with the drum. Stage III comprises the cooling drum 43, which has a series of passages 44 through which air is blown. Stage IV comprises the step of fixing by further exposure to light, this time from a long straight lamp, the film passing along one long side and back along the other. Air cooling is also provided at this stage.
