Abstract: A composition comprising an optimized content of eleutheroside E, ligustilide and baicalin is provided to decrease leukocyte count, interleukin-6, TNF-alpha, and prostaglandin E2 and increase prostaglandin E2 synthase, thereby being usefully used in order to prevent and treat inflammatory diseases. A composition for treating and preventing inflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and periarthritis of shoulder comprises a mixture consisting of 3-7 parts by weight of an extract of Acanthopanax senticosus, 2-6 parts by weight of an extract of Angelica sinensis and 0.8-1.2 parts by weight of an extract of Scutellaria baicalensis, wherein the extract is prepared by using a solvent such as water, C1-4 alcohol, and a mixture thereof and the mixture contains 0.5-5% of eleutheroside E, 0.05-0.5% of ligustilide and 1-10% of baicalin.
