Abstract: A separation column for chromatography or a medium for solid phase extraction, which comprises a hollow capillary and a collected body packed in the hollow capillary and serving as a stationary phase, the collected body comprising long fibers having an adsorbing ability selective towards a target solute and arranged in the axial direction of the capillary, and a sample injection system which comprises the foregoing hollow capillary incorporated into a loop of a valve or a passage connecting two valves, the valve(s) being used as an injector for the chromatography. The use of the polymeric long fibers, which have chemical structures specially designed so that they can specifically interact with a target substance (a solute or an analyte) to be analyzed, permits the selective or preferential extraction and/or concentration of the solute.

Abstract: A copolymer (C1) of methacrylic acid (a1) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (a2) and optionally a third monomer (a3), is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparation of (C1) involving polymerizing (a1) and (a2) and optionally (a3) in an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution; (2) an adsorbent or a concentrating medium comprising (C1); (3) a loop used in an injector for chromatography (where the loop is packed with the adsorbent or the concentrating medium); (4) a needle for solid-phase microextraction (SPME) (where the needle is packed with the adsorbent with the adsorbent or concentrating medium); (5) a kit for the preparation of a sample to be analyzed comprising the needle for SPME, a syringe having a large volume and a syringe having a small volume; (6) a method for concentrating a sample involving (X) and/or (Y): (a) (X), comprising aspirating the sample into the large volume syringe of the kit to adsorb an analyte present in the sample on the adsorbent or concentrating medium within the needle for SPME and thus concentrating the analyte present in the sample; and/or (b) (Y), comprising: (i) substituting the small volume syringe for the large volume syringe; (ii) inserting the needle for SPME into a sample-injection port of a chromatograph; (iii) passing an elution medium fed from the small volume syringe through the needle to thus elute the analyte adsorbed on the adsorbent or concentrating medium; and (iv) injecting the eluted analyte into the chromatograph through its sample-injection port to thus carry out the chromatography analysis.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a separating agent capable of separating enantiomer of salbutamol and atenolol and being inexpensive and stable to modification due to an organic solvent by binding a pepsin or a partially modified pepsin to a support. CONSTITUTION:This separating agent is obtained by binding a pepsin or a pepsin whose molecular structure is partially modified to a carrier. The pepsin is preferably obtained by purifying a protease contained in gastric juice of animals by fractionation, etc., using a precipitation absorbent consisting of safranine. Furthermore, a method for binding the pepsin to the carrier comprises e.g. activating an aminopropylsilica gel used as a carrier with a crosslinking agent consisting of N, N-disuccinimidylcarbonate and then binding the compound to the pepsin.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a separating agent capable of efficiently separating enantiomer of an acidic compound and being stable to modification due to an organic solvent by binding an elastase or a partially modified elastase to a carrier. CONSTITUTION:This separating agent is obtained by binding an elastase or an elastase whose molecular structure is partially modified to a carrier. The elastase is obtained by separating acetone extract of swine pancreas with affinity chromatography. A method for binding the elastase to the carrier comprises putting, e.g. an aminopropyl silica gel used as a carrier into a sodium hydrogen carbonate buffer together with a crosslinking agent, stirring the mixture and binding the elastase to the resultant activated aminopropylsilica gel.
