Abstract: PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a compound isolated from Platycodon grandiflorum is provided to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases. CONSTITUTION: A betulin of chemical formula 1 is isolated from Platycodon grandiflorum. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases contains the betulin of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient. Cardiovascular diseases are congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease (myocardial ischemia), hyperlipidemia, artery scleroma, hypertension, hypotension, arrhythmia or cardiac insufficiency.
