Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing Ipomoea batatas extract or 2,4-di-terbutylphenol for preventing and treating brain diseases is provided to ensure an effect for Alzheimer's disease. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating brain diseases contains Ipomoea batatas extract or fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The Ipomoea batatas extract is isolated using water, organic solvent, or mixture solvent thereof. The fraction is a water fraction, hexane fraction, chloroform fraction, or ethyl acetate fraction. The brain diseases are Alzheimer's diseases, senile dementia, vascular dementia, Huntington`s chorea, Parkinson's disease, migraine, or depression. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating brain diseases contains 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol isolated from the Ipomoea batatas extract or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
