Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for preparing functionally gradient composite materials is provided which is capable of preparing uniformly mixed coating layer as maintaining physical properties and merits of each materials without deterioration or change of physical properties even when preparing functionally ingredient composite materials using materials having different physical properties. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing functionally gradient composite materials comprises the steps of preparing a mixed coating layer by controlling types of material powder and coating process conditions in each shot unit using intermittent characteristics of detonation gun spraying; and forming a compositional gradient in a thickness direction by laying up the mixed coating layer comprising different fractions of each materials step by step through controlling of shot ratio of each powder, wherein the types of material powder supplied in each shot unit are controlled so that only a specific type of powder is injected into a tube barrel of a detonation gun sprayer per each shot using powder supplying units filled with each of the powders, degree of mixing of material powders in the mixed coating layer is controlled by controlling transfer speed of a specimen manipulator on which the coating layer is formed, thereby varying area of a part which is overlapped by continuous detonations, the fractions control design variables of the functionally gradient composite materials such as a compositional gradient in a thickness direction of the coating layer by changing thickness of each mixed coating layers when laying up each different mixed coating layers, and coating particles formed by one time of detonation is formed in a scattered shape by controlling the amount of powder supplied per each shot.
