Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing a hydroxamic acid type chelate resin, which has excellent heavy metal ion adsorption-capability and speed and thus is useful for purifying waste water and recovery of expensive heavy metals. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing a hydroxamic acid type chelate resin comprises the steps of: (a) carrying out suspension polymerization of ethyl acrylate with divinyl benzene in the presence of a diluting agent to obtain crosslinked poly(ethyl acrylate) resin matrix beads; and (b) reacting the crosslinked poly(ethyl acrylate) resin matrix beads with hydroxyl amine to form the hydroxamic acid type chelate resin. The method optionally further comprises the step of (c) treating the hydroxamic acid type chelate resin with an aqueous alkaline solution.
