Abstract: A cationic azo dye containing a julolidine unit or its addition salt or solvate a dye composition for dyeing a keratin fiber(hair) containing the azo dye, a method for dyeing a keratin fiber by using the composition, and a dyeing kit using the composition are provided to improve the resistance against light and weather and to reduce toxicity profile. A cationic azo dye containing a julolidine unit is represented by the formula I, wherein A is a cationic aromatic heterocycle group represented by the formula IIa, IIb or IIc; R1 is independently a linear or branched saturated or unsaturated C1-C16 hydrocarbon group which is optionally interrupted by at least one group selected from a hetero atom such as O, N or S and a carbonyl group, can be substituted and can be condensed with an aromatic ring to form a three to seven-membered carbon ring; R2 are independently a linear or branched saturated or unsaturated C1-C16 hydrocarbon group referred above, a hydroxyl group, a C1-C4 alkoxy group, a C2-C4 (poly)hydroxyalkoxy group, etc.; m is an integer of 0-4; e is an integer of 0-2; p is 0 or 1; x is an integer of 0-2; y is an integer of 0-6; and z is an integer of 0-6.
