Abstract: An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to minimize texture defect generated when voltages of the same polarity are applied to gate lines and pixel electrodes. An LCD comprises a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a first insulating substrate. A plurality of gate lines(121) are extended parallel to one another on the first insulating substrate. A plurality of data lines(141a,141b) cross the gate lines to define pixel regions. A plurality of first electrode layers(161) are formed in each of the pixel regions such that an edge disposed along the gate lines is longer than an edge disposed along the data lines. A second electrode layer(162) is formed on the gate lines and between the first electrode layers.

An LCD includes an LCD panel, a light source and a compensation film(10).
