Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing broadcast contents in a UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) network are provided to allow a user to watch a broadcast seamlessly even when a channel is changed while a media renderer receives external broadcast contents provided from a media server and renders them. A connection establishing unit(713) establishes a connection for streaming with a media renderer(720). A request recognizing unit(715) recognizes a message requesting a change of a channel received from a control point while broadcast contents of a certain channel is being transmitted through a link. A channel changing unit(714) changes a broadcast reception channel while maintaining connection so that broadcast contents of the requested channel can be transmitted instead of the broadcast contents which were being transmitted.

Abstract: A method for providing DVD content in a UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) network and an apparatus thereof are provided to enable a user to use various kinds of menu information on a DVD title like in a local DVD system while watching DVD content located at a remote place over a network. A method for providing DVD content in a UPnP network comprises the following several steps. A media server, which stores DVD content, extracts menu information from a DVD, combines options which can be selected by a user, on a menu, and generates at least two kinds of menu setup information(310). If the media server generates the menu setup information, the media server generates item information for each menu setup information(320). If the media server receives a browse call message, which asks of information on the content the media server can provide, from a control point(330), the media server transmits a response message including the generated item information to the control point(340). If the control point selects one among plural item information and requests a specific media renderer to reproduce the selected item, the media renderer transmits a play call message on the selected item to the media server(350). The media server parses the play call message, analyzes corresponding menu setup information, generates stream data on the DVD content while reflecting the corresponding menu setup information, and transmits the generated stream data to the media renderer(360).
