Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inserting/removing a protection block of an OFDM communication system are provided to enhance the performance of time synchronization by inserting pilot data streams. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for inserting/removing a protection block of an OFDM communication system includes a protection block insertion unit(530) and a selection unit(590). The protection block insertion unit(530) copies block data of predetermined positions from received data streams and inserts the copied block data into a predetermined protection block of the received data streams. The selection unit(590) inputs selectively output data streams of the protection block insertion unit and particular words having a non-periodical autocorrelation characteristic and outputs OFDM symbols. The OFDM symbols are formed by inserting the particular words into the output data streams. The apparatus for inserting/removing the protection block of the OFDM communication system further includes a buffer(570) for storing the particular words and a control unit(580) for controlling a selective input operation of the selection unit(590).
