PURPOSE: An optical pickup position detecting device for an optical disc drive is provided to allow the use of light generated from a light source of the optical pickup partially, thereby removing any additional light source or collimator lens. CONSTITUTION: An optical pickup position detecting device for an optical disc drive includes an optical pickup(1) formed of separative movable part(3) having an objective lens(7) and a fixed part(2) having a light source(5) and a beam splitter(8), a linear scale(4) having a fixed scale(12) mounted to the fixed part and composed of a plurality of light passing stripes aligned in the longitudinal direction and a movable scale(13) mounted to the movable part to move linearly along the movement of the optical pickup and having a plurality of light passing stripes aligned in the longitudinal direction, and a detector(11) mounted to the fixed part for detecting incident light passing through the movable and fixed scales, wherein the light generated by the light source and split by the beams splitter partially reaches the linear scale.

PURPOSE: A method for performing a user interfacing process in a digital handy terminal enables users to easily make out sentences, by applying a touch screen panel(TSP) as a character information inputting unit. CONSTITUTION: A sentence making out mode is entered by a user request. Whether a user touches a 'touch' region is decided. A character input displaying window is displayed in the sentence making out mode. Whether the user touches the 'touch' region with a touch screen panel(TSP) is sensed. Outputted data of the TSP is decided which displaying window the data is included. A character reading process is performed to read a character code by a character reader through the data of the TSP. Characters read by the character reader are displayed. A touch corresponding to a character kind selecting process is decided by restricting a target of inputted characters. The touch is decided whether the touch is for an edition selecting command. If the touch is not for the edition selecting command, the touch is decided whether the touch is for a 'confirmation' command.

PURPOSE: A method for utilizing an electronic calculating function in a portable terminal, is provided to more delicately display an operating status of the function, and to comfortably use the function, with relative miniaturized screen and body of the terminal. CONSTITUTION: A method for utilizing an electronic calculating function in a portable terminal, comprises the steps of: if an electronic calculating operation mode is inputted, outputting and displaying an operating status of the portable terminal in a regular type; segmenting a first input window displaying/receiving an operated object information, a second input window displaying/receiving an operation/control command, and an output window displaying an information-inputted status and an operated result, to display on a screen; if the operated object information is inputted through the first input window, displaying the inputted information on the screen; and if the operation/control command is inputted via the second input window, executing operation of the displayed information and displaying the operated result on the screen.

PURPOSE: A device for controlling indication device's icon indication status is provided to easily recognize the selected icon's status, to increase user's recognition and to enable user to feel the icon to be more elegant even when a framed icon is selected to indicate an active icon, to resolve active selection icon, which is achieved from simple reversion of normal icon's indication state, and to diversify icon's indication state according to operator's intention. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling indication device's icon indication status is composed of reception, extraction, output, and indication. Controller(40) controls portable device's general actions and icon indication state's actions. Controller possesses and uses one chip microprocessor and it also possesses a buffer that stores internally processed data. LCD controller(60) is operated under controller's control and it receives appropriate data from the controller, and transmits and displays data on LCD panel(80). Received data is known as 'indication data' and it's stored in a designated area under LCD controller's control. Indication data displayed on LCD panel is composed of data that is individually extracted and output by icon storage(50) and active icon storage(70). According to icon indication requests, controller individually extracts necessary indication data from icon storage and transmits it to LCD controller, and transmitted indication data is displayed on LCD panel. Controller selectively extracts active icon indication data from icon storage, transmits it to LCD controller, and enables indication to take place. Icon storage and active icon storage's indication data correspond to each other, and if a selection input is made for indicator of icon storage's stored indication, active icon storage's indication data, that corresponds to icon storage's data, is extracted and indicated.

본 발명은 하드 디스크 드라이브 제어 장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로서, 특히 ID(Identification) 정보가 디스크상에 없는 하드 디스크 드라이브에서 원하는 데이타 섹터를 찾아 디스크 동작을 수행하는 장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 목적을 위하여 목표 서보 섹터 번호 값을 설정하고, 스킵할 데이타 섹터값을 설정하는 제1단계, 서보 섹터에 의해 현재 서보 섹터 번호를 연산하고, 상기 제1단계에서의 목표 서보 섹터 번호와 현재의 서보 섹터 번호를 비교하는 제2단계, 상기 제2단계에서 목표 서보 섹터 번호와 현재의 서보 섹터 번호가 같으면 스킵할 데이타 섹터 갯수가 소정 갯수로 될 때 까지 연산하고, 소정의 갯수가 되면 디스크의 리드 및 라이트 동작을 수행하는 제3단계를 포함한다. 본 발명에 의하면, 디스크에서 정보를 리드해낼 헤드의 현 위치를 디스크 콘트롤러가 파악하여 디스크 리드 및 라이트 동작을 수행하기 위한 목표 서보 섹터를 찾는 단계에서 시간 소요를 최소화하고, 디스크 콘트롤러의 데이타 리드 및 라이트를 제어하는 시퀀서의 실행 시작의 제약을 제거함으로서 마이크로 콘트롤러의 로드가 감소되며 디스크 리드 및 라이트에 소요되는 전체 시간을 줄일 수 있다.

디지탈 데이타를 발생빈도와 크기에 의해 보호화하는 엔트로피부호화방법에 의해 가변장부호화된 데이타열로부터 원래의 데이타를 복호화하는 가변장복호화장치가 개시된다. 일정비트수의 비트열을 기억하는 데이타입력부와; 데이타입력부에 기억된 비트열 중의 허프만부호를 추출하고 이에 대응되는 코드렝스(code-length)와 "런렝스(run-length) 및 사이즈(size)정보"를 출력하는 허프만부호판별부와; 그리고 데이타입력부에 기억된 비트열과 허프만부호 판별부에서의 코드렝스와 사이즈정보를 입력하여 가변장 복호화된 데이타열을 출력하는 데이타출력부를 포함한다. 본 발명에 의한 가변장부호화장치는 입력되는 가변장부호화된 데이타의 비트열중에서 허프만부호와 매칭되는 비트패턴을 검사하고 이에 대응되는 역호프만부호를 출력하게 함으로써 실시간으로 복호화를 수행할 수 있게 하는 장점을 갖는다.

PURPOSE: A method for interfacing users of digital portable terminals with a touch screen panel as a user information inputter, is provided to conveniently control functions of the terminals by using a touch screen panel(TSP) as an object-oriented user information input instrument or a user request information input instrument. CONSTITUTION: A method for interfacing users of digital portable terminals with a touch screen panel(TSP) as a user information input instrument, comprises the steps of: dividing a regular area of the TSP into a telephone directory function call touch area and a data recording call touch area; if data of the TSP are generated, detecting a touch area corresponding to the generated TSP data; if the detected touch area is the telephone directory calling touch area, displaying a prestored telephone directory as a list, and performing functions of the data recording in the case of the data recording call touch area.
