    Abstract: A defect prediction and managing method of a hard disc drive using hierarchical clustering and curve fitting is provided to improve the reliability of the hard disc drive by predicting possible defect of the magnetic surface as well as detecting the current defects in manufacturing the hard disc drive. A defect prediction and managing method of a hard disc drive comprises a step of detecting defects generated on the magnetic surface of a disc(S310), a step of forming a plurality of clusters from the detected defects(S320), a step of computing a curve feet to each cluster(S330), and a step of predicting possible defects by using the calculated curve fit(S340).
