Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for setting up an automatic optimized GPS reception period and map contents are provided to reduce a system load by optimizing a GPS reception period in consideration of user moving speed and reducing an unnecessary system calculation. CONSTITUTION: A GPS receiver(204) receives a GPS signal by a first period. A GPS terminal(202) uses a received GPS signal to measure moving speed. The GPS terminal updates the first period in consideration of the measured first period and moving speed. The GPS terminal includes a table for mapping the reception period which is optimized in consideration of a moving speed period. The GPS terminal determines the mapped reception period as a second period to correspond to the measured moving speed referring to the table.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for inputting function key is provided to improve the efficiency of the function key by using the qwerty keyboard such as the direction key and cursor key. The apparatus for the function key input determines whether the press event is generated in the function key region that uses one of the direction keys and the cursor keys or not(400). If the press event is generated, the apparatus assigns one of direction keys and cursor keys to the key area and indicates it(402). If the release event is generated in the function key region, the apparatus cancels the allocation of the indicated keys(412).
